Some friends of ours sailed into Barcelona on Tuesday and they had hooked a 25kg tuna just a few hours earlier... so dinner for the last few days has been sushi and seared tuna steaks!
Enjoy your lunch GG! | Quote: | | | | | The Braschler fish shop are setting up a Sushi stall in the promo area near the bar for today and tomorrow... I know what my lunch will be | | | | | | | This user would like to thank fduvall for this useful post:

| | | Re: Zurich 'Viadukt' Market | Quote: | | | | | It's the first birthday of the Viadukt market coming up (party night event on Friday 2nd September is on this thread) and I thought I'd update you with some news.
On Monday 5th September there will be some changes in the market as some stall holders leave, some new ones come in and some just move. Like us..... the British Cheese Centre has been given the main island at the front of the market (the old Slow Food island) right next to the oyster and wine bar. We will be using 4 of the 7 tables for ourselves (and a new part of our offer will be the "Port and Stilton Centre"), one table will be a Bagel Bar (warm bagels with smoked salmon and cheddar and chutney etc) and bagels fresh and frozen to take home.
The other 2 tables are available for rent (although we have an offer on one of them) by the day. If you have an interesting idea in food that you would like to sell, please get in touch. The daily rate for the tables is very affordable and you will be part of the most exiting island in the market.... IMO of course
The biggest change though is that the market management have finally listened to us stall holders and agreed to installed some tall bar tables by the front doors (right in front of our island) where shoppers can eat and drink produce that they have bought in the market (Rappigold anyone?). Being in front of us we should be able to create quite a party atmosphere, especially on the busy Thursday, Friday and Saturday drinking evenings.
So, thanks to everyone on EF for supporting us at the market in our first year, hopefully the 2nd year will be even better for us! | | | | | Fixed that for you.
Can't wait....

Grumps, any word on who is running this Bagel Bar? If it is these people or, dare to dream, these people I am having a bagasm already... | Quote: | | | | | ...one table will be a Bagel Bar (warm bagels with smoked salmon and cheddar and chutney etc) and bagels fresh and frozen to take home.... | | | | | | | This user would like to thank Bartholemew for this useful post:

The bagels will come from the chaps in your first link, mybagel.ch. I met them at an American Womens Club do in Zurich once, and all the American ladies there told me that their bagels are just about as good as they could get back "home".
Their onion bagel, served warm, with Godminster Cheddar and Red Onion Marmalade is a winner (as I'm sure you can imagine!)

GG - how much will the bar takings go down once the bar tables are up? You'll make a fortune on the Rappi stuff - time to get a bigger fridge?

Don't need much help there, seeing as how embarrasing myself has always been something I've excelled at! | Quote: | | | | | .... bagasm.... that's yet another way I can embarrass you in future. | | | | | I will not, and I'm sorry to miss you. You been there propping up the bar all afternoon, I'm guessing? | Quote: | | | | | You wandering along this fine eve, also? | | | | | | | This user would like to thank Bartholemew for this useful post:

Well another AD for Viadukt...or kind of...
Whilst wandering the halls and stalls of the Expat Expo yesterday I met up with Grumpygrapefruit and enjoyed some great conversation, introductions and fayre
I would wholeheartedly recommend their new products and enjoyed much of the port and cheese selections I left with in front of the screen last evening and let me tell you guys; it was a purchase that for once put me in GOOD favour with the Mrs | | The following 2 users would like to thank saint7uk for this useful post:

I had one of Grumpy's bagels at the Viadukt tonight, and I'm here to tell ya, it was absolutely exquisite. Best bagel I have had in Switzerland, hands down, and in fact better than anything I could get locally back home either. And I've got three more of them in my bag. Right, that's tomorrow's breakfast, lunch and dinner taken care of.... | | This user would like to thank MathNut for this useful post:

Big Bagel ! That's that cheesy bagel joint? I hear they got some tasty bagels. Ain't never had one myself. How are they?
Th-they're good.
You mind if I try one of yours?
This is yours here, right? Mm-hmm! This is a tasty bagel! Mathnut! You ever had a cheesy bagel DB ?
Want a bite? They're real tasty.
Ain't hungry.
Well, if you like bagels, give them a try sometime. Me, I can't usually get them 'cause my girlfriend's a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian. I do love the taste of a good bagel. Mmm. You know what they call a sandwich in Switzerland?
No.
Dreadful stale leather.

Mmmmmmmmmm! I just had the "Käsemeister Bagel" (toasted wholemeal bagel with stilton and portwein jelly) at Grumpy's bigger and better stand.
It was FANTASTIC! Thank-you!
I know where I will be going for my lunches when I am in town.

Just a note to other "proper" roasted potato lovers:
The Pie Shop is now selling real goose fat. Yes, you read that right. A small jar for 10CHFs. We will be testing it out this weekend but we are excited already. | | This user would like to thank JLF for this useful post:

The market is open today from 11.00 - 18.00 and there's lots going on. I have Hot Toddies, the Waedenswil brewery are here, lots of Pies of course and we have some crumpets and muffins left. I also have a few bottles of Port open and some great new cheeses from Yorkshire. Be sure to say hello!

If you don't know what to do on this wet Zurich day, head down to the Viadukt market, there's a Freiburger special event on, lots of good food specialities including Vacherin and Gruyere cheeses of course.... and you can meet the cheesemakers, helps if you speak a bit of French!
