| | | 'Real American Goods' in Samstagern - any good? - Or where to get Mountain Dew in CH?
A few weeks I ago, I was very delighted to discover that the store at the rest stop on the A3 near Wädenswil carried my beloved Mountain Dew. Despite the outrageous price (3.90 a can IIRC ), I couldn't resist.
There was a sticker on the can which mentioned that it's imported by a company called REAL AMERICAN GOODS in Samstagern. After I finished the can, I noticed that the best-before-date on the bottom of the can was missing. When I was there the next time, I checked a few more cans and none of them had the date on it, which made me wonder.
I tried to locate their website without success, which made me wonder even more.
Does anyone on this board have any experience (good or bad) with this company?
Or does someone know where I could get (US) Mountain Dew at a reasonable price in Switzerland?
BTW, I know that Mountain Dew is available in at least some european countries, even Migros carried it for a short while IIRC, but I always found that the EU version tastes rather "lame" compared to the original. (Maybe the Americans put some nasty chemicals in it, which are outlawed in Europe... )

Real American Goods is an Einzelfirma (one-man business). The law dictates that this form of company must have a part of the owner's name in the title. The real name is " Wolfgang Ruetz Real American Goods" and the company doesn't have a website
I've seen some of its imports in the Drinks of the World in Zürich. They have some shops in other cities near train stations, too. Regrettably Drinks of the World has no information about their non-alcohol offers online. If I remember correctly, they have root beer and Dr. Pepper's cola in Zürich, 3.70 Fr. a can.
I haven't noticed that there's no date on the can, but I haven't had a bad can so far... You'll have to contact Wolfgang Ruetz directly if you want a pallet of American Dew. I wish you good luck but hey, as somebody in the import business, at least he probably understands English! |

On reasonably priced mountain dew.... not a chance in CHF..... but Zwinglihalle (a clothing store) in the Niederdorf opposite the grossmunster carries mountain dew (different flavours), Dr. peppers, root beer, ginger ale and creme soda at the last check.
A bit pricey but worth every frank on occassion .

Any other drinks you're interested in? Price would be about the same like IRN BRU and Ginger Beer. I checked if we can get hold of Mountain Dew but our suppliers don't stock it so it would be more of an effort to find if at all possible.

I'd love to find some decent peanut butter. I've been bringing jars of Adams back with me on my trips to the US, but it's a pain. And now... I'm at my last jar.. :-(

Adams is nothing but peanuts and salt. Or you can have it without salt. I don't want anything else added. I once found something in a reformhaus in Germany, but they ground the skins in with the nuts, leading to a nasty bitter taste.

As an American who has lived in CH and the UK, I can vouch for the UK version being basically the same as the US version.
As a side note, I think Coke Zero is a big step up from Coke Light.

G&T is just not the same with the fat tonic. There was a thread asking about this a couple of weeks ago so I am not the only one interested.....

We could get it in...according to my calculation 3 - 3.50 CHF for the half litre bottle or 4 - 4.50 for the litre bottle would be a realistic price. Will talk to Jo and see if we will make it part of our range, otherwise there's always the possibility to order one or two cases (12 bottles) extra for you with our next delivery. Just send an e-mail for further discussion.

For those who are interested I saw Dr Pepper in COOP (Center 11 Oerlikon) today for 1.20chf per can.... Not sure how it compares to US version but might be worth a try at that price |

It's imported from the Netherlands and unfortunately contains a highly unhealthy preservative (sodium benzoate) that's illegal in Switzerland.

The basement "gourmet" grocery stores of Jelmoli and Globus have many American products. I've seen Mountain Dew but not Dr. Pepper, Anchor Steam and Sam Adams beer, Old El Paso Mexican food, etc. It's all quite expensive but when you need a fix, it's worth it!!
I personally have asked all of our American visitors to smuggle in some of my favorites in their suitcases. It has worked out really well! Good luck - Kristin

That's the stuff that shreds DNA isn't it ??
I used to buy a couple of cans a week from the big Coop in Silbern (Dietikon).
I'm sure I saw a place on Niederdorfstrasse, near the corner for the street that Oliver Twist is on, that was selling loads of 'rare' US type drinks and sweets, including Mountain Dew. I remember the prices seemed pretty high but hey, Zuerich is an expensive place.

Grabbed some last night, Co-op in Sihlcity, CHF 1.20 per can.
Drank a couple of cans and despite the DNA shredding stuff I'm still here, actually maybe I'm here, there and everywhere now! | Quote: | | | | | Coop carries Dr Pepper in most of their stores. As to Mountain Dew, I stumbled upon a thread that mentioned MD was available at the Petrol Stations in Germany.
Going to check that out myself in the next couple of days. I'll do a end of the tram line and walk acroos the border trip, hoping that there's a station nearby....
