Figs!

We have just been given a huge bag of very ripe figs. Our freezer is full of other items. Has anyone any idea what we can do with them pro tem? We adore them, so don't want to leave them to rot - that would be a crying shame!

Re: Figs!

Bake them with cinnamon, cardamom, fruit juice, sugar and a strong liquor of choice. Serve with double cream or chocolate ice cream, with Turkish coffee. Get fat and happy today. Hard days ahead. Wish I had your problems...

Fig Jam!

http://www.grouprecipes.com/87930/homemade-fig-jam.html

(I use far less sugar, and add pectin - I like my jams to taste of the fruit, not sugar.)

or

Or, Homemade Fig Newtons:

Or how about: Fig and Goat Cheese Scones:

---

However, ripe figs don't often make it that far in our house - they are pretty much eaten before I've finished planning what to do with them.

(Oops - x-posted the jam idea with everyone else. )

Re: Figs!

I'm no cooking expert, but can you make fig rolls at home?

I used to love them when I was in UK. Not seen them here.

Oooh. There's a recipe here.

Re: Figs!

Try this tranche! It's absolutely wonderful.
We modified it though: no jam and used ricotta instead of goat's cheese. (You just need one pack of 200 gr, spread thinly). The whole family ate it in a nanosecond.

Re: Figs!

My wife makes a kind of sauce with Marsala Wine & Vanilla and keeps the fresh figs in a jar with it. It is absolutely awesome and makes me want to marry her over and over again. I can ask her to write the recipe here on Sunday perhaps.

Whatever you do - use them quickly. We got a huge bag given to us last week and half were mouldy within a day or two.

My wife made a tart with figs and creme fresh and other things. I'm not sure what and she probably doesn't know either, she made it up.
