Hi, new to CH and the forum.

Am hoping someone might have an interest in American football, specifically which cable/satellite provider affords best access to programming content. Am not looking to follow a specific program or team, would simply enjoy having the ability to watch games on Saturday afternoons/evening.

Have inherited a home with a Sky Network dish, and am inclined to stick with it, unless there is a better alternative.

I usually catch games at Hooters in Zurich--they're fairly standard there, if not they usually put them on for you

Of course you only go to Hooters to watch the American Football, no other reason at all, no sireee.

If I was interested in 'other' attractions, I would surely just saunter down Langstrasse and take my pick.

Hooters is actually quite sports/family restaurant (at least in NA) which happens to hire wait staff based on sex-appeal----oh wait, almost every restaurant, bar, store does that as well.

Thanks to all, apreciate the advice. I am aware of the Hooters option. Of course I'll probably do for a big 1 pm US game from time-to-time, perhaps we can arrange a meet-up once the season gets interesting in October or so. Also aware of internet-delivered broadcasts, ability to sling box, etc.

However I don't know if there is a particular satellite/cable provider that might provide superior coverage, my understanding is Sky's ESPN is more focused on European football, and not sure what level of NCAA (ie college) programming it affords. Only ask because now that we're moving in I need to figure out whether to get rid of the dish and go with a cable provider.

And yes, I will base this decision entirely on the provider which maximizes my ability to watch US football on weekends

We hang out at Hooters during the NCAA and NFL seasons too, the owner is one of our players. Hooters shows NFL games from the ESPN America channel, plus the occasional Eurosport 2 network game, but they all tend to be Notre Dame games from the previous week and if you're not a Fighting Irish fan, then it's boring.

If the NFL get their crap together and actually play this season, sign up for Gamepass, its the best deal you could ever spend $ 270 on, especially with their "RedZone" option which means that you don't miss a thing Sunday nights.

If you buy Swisscom's cable service you can add the HD package which includes ESPN North America. I had some EF's over for the Bears/Packers playoff game and plan to have a few more get togethers this fall...hopefully. You would of course be more than welcome.

If you get ESPN America you'll have to put up with their choice of games and although they often have triple headers Sunday nights, the chances of watching your favorite team are remote. I gave up and went with NFL's Gamepass which really is a great way to watch the games, a very solid piece of software that you can hook your computer up to and stream to your regular TV or watch on the go wherever you are. They do black out certain games in the UK if you happen to be there and that particular game is being shown on TV, but in Switzerland you get all the games every week during the regular season and then it's another $ 50 for all the playoffs and wildcard games from late December up until Super Sunday.

I haven't looked into it yet for NFL, but ESPN offers a pretty full on-line package for college football that I plan on relying on once the season starts. and you ought to come out and play flag football with us.
