Drugs in road racing pro bike riders

Let's say you are a pro bike road racer. You train several hours a day. In order to do this you have to give up other activities that are valuable to you. Sometimes you have to neglect your family and/or friends in order to maintain a high level of fitness. For people who have their own family this is hard.

Then you recieve news that you have not made the team. Or your performance is not high enough to qualify for top level road racing.

You are then told in private by a person representing the team or the sponsor that in order to make the team you have to take performance enhancing drugs that are illegal.

The argument that it's OK to take illegal performance drugs goes against all those riders who have chosen the honest way to compete.

JUST DO IT ?

NO THANKS !!! SAY NO TO ILLEGAL DRUG TAKING IN SPORT !!!

One could also question, what is classed as a performance enhancing drug? Where are the limits?

Coffee? Chia seeds? Superfoods?

And how in the world is anyone supposed to get 6000 healthy calories a day into themselves, without doing it "unnaturally"?

Re: Drugs in road racing pro bike riders

An Australian racer gave an explanation for his high caffeine reading in a blood sample. He had lots of coffee to drink just before the test.

200 cups of coffee was the requirement to produce a reading like the one recieved in the blood test.

hmmm

Illegal drug taking in sport is unfair to those competitors who compete honestly.

And I believe that the corporations involved should, for the sake of their own reputation, weed out those individuals who promote such activities.

I am looking forward to a cirtain American rider having his behind nailed to the floor boards. And I don't accept the argument that every one else was taking it so why shouldnt I too? Again that is a slap in the face to riders who have integrity and are honest to themselves, i.e don't take performance enhancing drugs.

A friend of mine had to give up road racing because he had no hope of competing on a level playing field with drug takers.

I think it is a bit silly and childish when people start arguing about what is classified as illegal and legal to use, the pros and cons etc. We all (I would hope) know what a healthy diet consists of don't we?

Perhaps this shows how scared most people are when it comes to finding the truth. And when it comes to top level bike road racers it is not hard to find.

If someone were to suggest that there should be no limits on the types of performance enhancing drugs that a rider is allowed to consume then I would have no objections. As long as it is made public knowledge. And if this does come to pass, just wait for the monster peer group pressure that would turn against the said riders.

Re: Drugs in road racing pro bike riders

I'm not a specialist at all of biking, but I'm damn sure it's impossible to produce the results we see on TV without drugs.

I think there's a huge amount of hypocrisy going on there: people (the public) want a show, record breakings, high level competitions, etc., but then they look outraged when the bikers have to take drugs to achieve those performances.

In my opinion, there are two options:
a) make drugs legal for professional sport people, hoping that a legalised market will allow better control of what is taken, with less health risks

b) forbid drugs, but then accept that speed and performances will slow down

We should have three olympics. The standard olympics for people not on drugs. The Paralympics for the disabled and the Benderlympics for those, disabled or not, on a total drugs bender.

I do not care that much about professional sport, but think about this:

You are a guy from rural Nebraska, a College year will cost you approx $17106 a year. You are not really, really good in school but you know that if you attend college you will get a decent grade in the end. But what you can do really good is swimming. You can swim nearly like a fish. But only nearly. If just take this enhancement drug you will swim like a fish. And you will get this sport scholarship that will grant you free university education...
