Re: Beckham Signing for PSG

not a fan myself, however who cares what I think?!

Nah, Golden Balls has done very well, Man U, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and now PSG, pretty awesome.

You beat Sportinglife to the punch, big scoop!

There is no doubting the guy's ability but I think a lot of the transfers particularly this one its more about the Beckham brand rather than the player.

Regardless, the guy has had one hell of a career.

For me it's always been this that has brought him to clubs. Real Madrid bought him and 'Michaels owing' to sell shirts in Asia, and they certainly did. Owen warmed the bench, Beckham did a bit better. He won 2 medals in 4-5 seasons, merchandise sold, around $600m in this time.
Steve McManaman remains the most decorated British Football export.

He's a fool. If he'd signed for Bradford City, he could be playing at Wembley next month.

Agree Beckham has always had the added benefit of selling shirts. He signed for LA when it looked like he was done at RM under Capello and I`m sure he thought he was over the hill. He got some starts towards the end of the year, played well, RM turned it around and won the title. I bet Beckham was regretting he signed for the MLS and hence he made the return trip to AC Milan in the MLS offseason to try and play at a better level.

Owen was unlucky at RM because despite a good scoring record he just couldn't get a starting spot when up against local hero Raul despite better form.

McManaman was pants but the one game I got to see RM live he stayed very close to the touchline providing some width and they would occasionally pass him the ball so he could immediately pass it back.

PSG will sell shirts but Beckham is not up to Champions League football, too old and at his best he was a very willing runner and great dead ball specialist. To some part he`s lost the first part of that and he doesn't have the skills to overcome that at the very highest level.

More interesting will be his tax arrangements.

£150k a week, 5 month contract and all the salary is being donated to a children's charity in Paris.
You really have to take your hat off to that.

Re: Beckham Signing for PSG

yeah, I heard on the radio tonight that he was donating his salary to charity. That's really cool.

Not related to Beck, but this reminds me of a story I saw a while back about a american singer from the 1960's. I can't remember his name, but after his singing career was over, he became a cop and donated his salary.

Stories like this give me hope for humanity.

Apart from the fact that he cheats on her, she is a very lucky lady indeed.

I think most people struggle to get a copy of the news of the screws these days.

You had more than seven years to read all about it before the NOTW closed up shop in July 2011.
