2005 was a great Ashes test series. I get 22 yards' point regarding marginal wins....but that's why it's a 5 match series to give time to make up for that.

England played a lot better than they were in 2005 to win, and were well and truly hyped up by the Great British Press afterwards. Only to go to Pakistan and lose badly in a test series there a few months later.

What do you expect? They were still drunk.

(and definitely didn't deserve the hysterical sycophantic reactions of the British press and people that followed the series).
I think you have to understand what it meant to the British press and public to win back the urn after over 2 decades of Aussie dominance. For many people it was their first ever taste of an Ashes victory.

And now they have been reclaimed by their riteful owners. Even if it is a team that is barely a shadow of the dominant one from of the 90s. Just need to finish the job now and make it 5-0

I'm talking about country of birth. It's one way of defining "origin". A country awarding somebody a passport doesn't make them "from" that country.
Australia fast track Pakistan spinner Fawad Ahmed in bid to win Ashes

KP, it seems, manages to get up everyones noses, the England supporters for not actually playing for his team, and the Aussies who get their knickers in a twist over his decision to play for his team (England). The truth is, pretty much every team does it, and has been doing it since the inception of national teams. Just look at the situation in Football for the GB teams, and at the revolving door of South Sea Islanders in Rugby.

By the way, congratulations to Australia for pretty much destroying England with some truly positive Cricket - however, it is a shame that my son could potentially be growing up with the same miserable introduction to Ashes cricket that I had.

Nice post, I agree with all you say -- except that Fawad Ahmed has never been capped in Test cricket for Australia (and I doubt he ever will be; he may even have played his last ODI for Australia). Your linked article is poor, speculative journalism from more than half a year ago.

The biggest problem I have with KP, apart from his selfish strokeplay, is his opportunism. He moved to England not because he had always harboured a passion to play for his beloved adoptive country, but because he couldn't break into the South African side. There's plenty of documented evidence for this reason for his "decision to play for England", some of it emanating from KP himself.

Brilliant so now we have someone trying to discredit the approach of picking someone who was never selected.

Good pickup 22yards

He was selected, he played a couple of ODIs for Australia (as 22 yards mentions).

My point was that sailing under a flag of international convenience is not new, and there are plenty of instances of others doing so - KP just seems to get up Australians noses more than, say, Lote Tuqiri for instance.

Never heard of him till your post but aussie cricket has become pretty dull these days and declining interest in the country in the subject

4-0 good result so far! They really need to put the cleaners through the english team and find some real players since the aussies are only average but being made to look good

Can't you see that Lehmann has done an excellent job as coach and Australia have the makings of a very good side?

Look how they've improved since early last summer: Australia were playing away from home, their captain and only world class batsman was struggling with a back injury, they had a new vice captain after the previous one was performing poorly and feuding with the captain, they had 4 players suspended for indiscipline, Warner their opening batsman and team thug was suspended for a month for fighting in a bar and their previous coach was sacked 2 weeks before the Ashes started.

well done Aussies!

The most disappointing one for England, certainly, after they had it all but won on day 3 when at one point they were effectively 0/115 in their second innings -- but certainly not their worst performance of the series to date.

I think your paragraph summed up why I'm right and you're wrong.

Make that a whitewash first team to ever lose 100 wickets in an ashes series making them the worst ever. Time for some serious changes , this team is well past their use by date as its hard to remember a team as uncompetitive as this visiting Australia
