Personally, I think I'd rather face Harold Larwood than Mitch Johnson. And did you notice how many English batsmen were caught down the leg side at the 'Gabba?

Wouldnt have a clue how many were caught down leg side as I only looked at the final score. I actually didnt think they had any batsman so it was probably none

I love the germans as they are way more friendly than the english or aussies

Used to own a japanese car

Its much more fun taking the mikey out of you since you seem to take it personally

Why was bodyline unfair? Strictly speaking it was within the rule of the game then and had been employed before (For example John Scott used similar tactics for South Australia under Viv Richardson).

Drastic may be, but it is unfair to call it unfair. To inflict batting error by disciplined bowling on any particular line is/was allowed and the batsmen are supposed to cope up with it. I don't disagree that it was dangerous but then so are all fast, short pitched bouncers.

Methinks you're confusing Vic Richardson and Viv Richards. Incidentally, it's a little-known fact that Vic Richardson was the grandfather of the Chappell brothers.

The rest of your post I agree with.

Re: Ashes 2013 on YouTube

Further to my post implying that Mitch Johnson's bowling in the 'Gabba Test was verging on bodyline, this quote from Cricinfo says it all:

Quote:
The field set for Mitchell Johnson summed up Australia's supremacy as they closed in on victory in the first Test at the Gabba. Every fielder was there for the kill: four slips, a fly slip, two leg slips, silly mid off, short leg. (My comment: that's as close to a Bodyline field as you can get under the current Laws.) Australia were all over England - or at least Johnson was ...

They cranked up the sledging with England nine down with the stump mic picking up conflicting opinions from their captain, Michael Clarke, and T20 captain, George Bailey, about whether James Anderson was going to get his arm or his hand broken.
I have no issue whatsoever with Mitch's bowling in this Test. It was extremely disciplined (for him) and entirely within the Laws of cricket. A fantastic effort, and I hope he reprises it several times this series.

I don't think Richards captained John Scott, Scott was dead for 10 years when Viv Richards debuted

Indeed. My point was that it's Vic Richardson, not Viv (as in Viv Richards). But kudos for your knowledge of State cricketers of yesteryear!

A different Australia to Wallabies, apparently. Or maybe I'm just from a different generation. I feel old, suddenly.

It might be as close to bodyline as you can get under current laws but it`s still a long way from it. With two legslips that means there is no outfielder behind square so the pull and hook shots (and the ramp if you are game) are still open. Under bodyline you had no where to go.

Poor batting by the England top order. You can`t expect the tail to cope with it.

But it`s only one nil. Our top order was equally as poor 1st innings. Johnson and Haddin`s partnership got us out of the poo poo.

Well done Australia.

MC has been charged for using offensive, insulting language and gestures towards English players.
He could not really deny it as was clearly heard whilst he giving the abuse to JA. Has our beautiful game of cricket stooped down to these despicable levels?

Re: Ashes 2013 on YouTube

It stooped there decades ago. This is nothing new. Pup was unfortunate to be caught on the stump mic, that's all. And there was no need to use the f-word (which is the reason for the fine). I can imagine his patience was wearing thin as England repeated all the time-wasting and delaying tactics they had employed in the Ashes series in England.

I find it odd that Clarke's penalty (20% of his match fee) is four times the fine handed to Faf duPlessis for ball tampering (outright cheating), a far more serious crime in my view.

It's also amusing that Jimmy Anderson, probably the biggest sledger in the game today, was the target. If only he could bowl at 150+ km/h, he could provide an appropriate on-field riposte.

Nope. It's always been like this. This just got caught on camera and mic.

Trott to return home due to stress-related illness

This will disappoint the Aussies. I'm more interested to know if returning home is a flight to South Africa or England

There's one sledge that worked, then.
