I thought the World Cup covered the entire globe which encompasses 24 time zones. By the above logic, wherever it is held, half the world won't be able to watch
Depends on which half of the world is paying the most for the television rights.

Not much point in ever hosting the world cup in Australia for example.
People there don't give a shit about the roundball game, and the time frame would always be awkward.... well, best case, you could watch all the games in the morning in Europe, but that would suck.

Re: Pathological hatred of football

Jumpers for goalposts? Isn't it? Marvellous.

I for one think there isn't enough football (not soccer, thank you very much) on the TV. If you turn on UK terrestrial channels (aside from during world cups / euros) you have two champions league games and one highlights package per week.

Hardly overkill for the world's most popular sport.

If you don't like it, do something else. Maybe go to the field next door and play some football.

Clearly, the Qatar decision was baffling and the 500 or so premier league footballers are for the main, over-pampered jessies, but that isn't really representitive of the millions of people who play football worldwide.

You don't have to like football, but just appreciate millions of people do, so sorry, suck it up.

Football....
A game for pansies whose main objective is to preserve their manicure and coiffure for the Saturday night club circuit.
Prancing and posing like wallflowers.

And as for the rabid, brain-dead supporters.............
Monday-Friday .. endlessly discussing the BRILLIANT goals and saves and the ludicrous transfer fees.
Saturday .. marching, chanting and pointing in their woolly hats and scarves.
Sunday .. gettin pissed at lunchtime on lager, reminiscing about trivial events on pitch decades ago and commisserating on the missed chances.
Why can't they choose a real game like rugby, or swimming, or athletics..... or bowls.

SHOULD BE BANNED FROM TV AT WEEKENDS..... and any other day ending in y.

Anyone getting pissed on white wine is clearly a lightweight who probably should wear their cheap suit in a Yates' Wine Lodge, pretending they are James Bond, coming out with smug gems like "Rooney can't play for Man United, he plays for England, what if they met in the European League, eh?

Do you mind offering an explanation on this?

I went to watch a Rugby match in Paris once, and low and behold the locals weren't too fond of beer.

I instead ended up watching the match drinking white wine and eating Oysters (.... a first for me, for a Rugby match) and I was pretty trashed.

It seems that I maintained a 'beer drinking pace' with the excitement of the match, and consequently ended up with a hangover that'd kill a teenager.

12% Vs 4.8% is hardly 'lightweight'

bloody French

Back home, the only store that sold alcohol after 9 pm was "The Wine Rack".

Needing alcohol for Hockey Night in Canada---we would resort to a 2 L bottle of their finest cheapest wine.

No regrets.

I've probably been a little harsh.

Getting pissed on white wine is acceptable, you'll probably get drunk even quicker if you and all your girlfriends have the odd glass of Prosecco too.

Your new policy fails badly. The use of the word should makes it all pointless.

A bit like QPR.

The thing about Arsenal is, they always try to walk it in!

-- There's a rather massive difference between Qatar in the summer and Brazil in the local (for the most part) winter
-- Not where they play full sized football in front of 50,000+ spectators there aren't. And none proposed in Qatar either
-- They don't watch in the wee small hours of the early morning which is when the Qatar summer temperatures become even remotely bearable
-- Not in England (or Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, .....) it doesn't

Ratbag, there are Americans in my country who will completely agree with you in your hatred of football, and for almost the same reasons. However, they're talking about a different sport altogether.

P.S. Might your hatred abate somewhat if you switched to watching Swiss football instead?
