Pathological hatred of football

There you go.
You guessed correctly.
I have a deep seated and long held hatred of anything to do with football.
Just tune in to any UK channel at weekends and what will you get?....

Repeated and regular updates showing brain dead, and very rich managers, prowling the sidelines shouting and gesticulating.
Moronic millionaire players feigning injury and foul play to gain the slightest advantage.

The awarding of the world cup to Qatar, where the temperatures reach almost 50C, and where there is little prior experience of any sporting activity highlights the totally corrupt nature of the game.

Now they don't even bother to deny the allegations.
Just shrug their shoulders and smirk.

Money (exclusively) talks when it comes to AF.

Perhaps if these folk would contribute a small fraction of the massive income to those less fortunate who die from war, starvation and disease I might have a little more respect.

But until then..................lets shout back at the corrupt and hugely complacent ........

Yup.

And if you don't give a damn what happens in Iraq or Syria... or so many other places... you could also bury your head in the sand.

It's just as well for you and other "pathological" haters of football that the World Cup is only once every 4 years because then there's absolutely no getting away from it wherever you are!

I love it actually!

Re: Pathological hatred of football

Well unbelievable transfer moneys, huge investments on this simple game... it sometimes create the feeling how this is ridiculous while there are very serious problems in the world.

On the other hand, there is one simple reason to like football; it is, as Pele said, o jogo bonito, the beatiful game. Even in hardest times, like those countries having big problems, people can get at least some nice times by watching football, playing football. Anyway money investments in football is much peaceful compared to those ones spent on weapons, which are much much bigger moneys.

what you write about Football also applies to other sports also

temperatures in Qatar in the evening drop

temperatures in lots of places in Europe at times drop to freezing point, while the danger of heavy snowfall during football games in Qatar is rather minimal

football fields in lots of places in Europe become swamps at times, something clearly unlikely in Qatar

Qatar does donations to many institutions, and was among the main donors to the victims of the infamous Tsunami. And nobody in Qatar dies from war and starvation

organised Football (league games etc) started in Qatar in 1932 and not just yesterday

Yeah, but still, if you consider the most of players who are playing in worldcup are playing in European teams, they are more used to European weather, not Qatar weather. Okay it is good to see the world cup in different places, but Qatar seems to be that it will create lots of problems. The weather might drop during the evening for match time, but the players have to make workouts and tactics all the day. Besides, putting all the games to the evening prevent half of the world to watch the games. That is why now they are discussing to move it to winter time, which would also cause to a chaos because of all local leagues and Champions and Europa League.

Re: Pathological hatred of football

I've a pathological hatred of the phrase "Haters gotta hate", because it is utterly moronic, frequently uttered by morons in an effort to deflect valid criticism. Just thought I'd mention it.

I avoided it this year. About all I know is that England went out early (but I can't say when), Germany won and at some point humiliated the host nation. I don't know who the other team in the final was.

Re: Pathological hatred of football

I don't think OP needs tips on avoiding football on TV but the efforts to offer made me lol.

OP, socker is whatever for me, too, love hockey. And baseball.

Rant away. (Quatar btw is a great choice, that area needs this investment, economically and politically)

I am moving the thread to a better suited arena.

Not sure if it needs more investment: it is one of the richest countries in the world, if not the richest! Qatar is a good choice as it is now confirms that modern slavery is perfectly acceptable in order to satisfy the whims of a royal elite, and to fill the coffers of a few! Despite the plight of all these labourers living and working in horrendous conditions, no authorities have stepped in and taken proper action. Slavery is very much alive!

Political rant over, back to football

Re: Pathological hatred of football

The OP does have a point about Qatar. She's also right to suggest it will be very hot when the matches are played - they will never be played that late due to the large number of people watching in Europe.

But she won't be one of them and feels the urge to tell us that.

I never have the issue that some channels are showing sport constantly - but then again I rarely watch live TV.

She had probably been drinking too

I know this. But it will be put on an exposed spot, the amount of little seasonal jobs will still be there, and it won't be Quatar people. A few more families fed. No matter of what we morally think right now about slavery (and yes, I agree), our armchair philosophy debate unfortunately will not provide those pennies, no matter how few. Or did it help folks in Brazil? If protest, then it needs to be done officially and efficiently. Which is, like...in 20 years, if armchair rebellion falls out of trendiness. In the mean time, people need to eat.
