Re: Will Federer be ranked no 1 again?

Federer will finish the year ranked number two. It's official. If he somehow wins London (beating Djokovic in the final) - a BIG ask - and he wins the Davis Cup final, then he might have a sniff at number one early next year.

But for 2014, we can stick a fork in his chances of reaching the summit. Djokovic took care of that.

Wow that was quick- Murray didn't stand a chance. And his poor (horrible?) mum will be out of Strictly tonight too.

Fed has already defeated Nole more than he has lost to him this year. So I wont count him out yet in a final that is still 2 match away. And if he does that and gets the 225 max points from Davis Cup (plus Nole definitely loses 140 points from last year) Fed will finish a very close no 2, may be around 500 points adrift.

Regards

But in their biggest matches in 2014, i.e. where a title was on the line, Nole made sure that Federer got the little plate (Wimbledon, Indian Wells).

Re: Will Federer be ranked no 1 again?

I am not sure it realy matters any more. The guy has proven beyond all doubt that he mentaly tough and hard wired to produce quality tennis as long as his body is young enough to do so.

Novak will remain number 1 for this year with his runaway win.

How to stay number 1 ?

Train like you are number 2.

Apparently Federer's wife Mirka has disturbed Wawrinka during their last match and called him "crybaby"..

Re: Will Federer be ranked no 1 again?

After rather not constructive remark made by Federe's wife Mirka, who apparently had uttered something in French about Wawrinka that he had no balls to finish it off, well string of events took place. Federer and Wawrinka had had a 10min heated argument in a designated room so that no embarrassment leaked out to daylights. AFAIK, there had been no fists fight and what's not.

Well, to be honest I know it might not be nice to hear negative criticism, but common you Wawrinka smack. You had had so many chances to finish this match off and do not blame woman for distracting you. So no excuses. Rather blame it for your miserable lack of balls ...

Otherwise, coming back to Federer. Irrespective of his appearance in the finals or not, it does not change the fact that he has to enjoy being number 2 for a while. He is well behind Novak whopping 1810 pts.

Federer is my favourite player but had to admire Novak's coolness even when the public wasn't quite hostile but neither supportive to him, couple of times he even managed to make them applause and be a bit more encouraging. He's an excellent player (have to admit I like him more since he's trained by Becker) but also a cool guy. And this is important too.

And btw, Wawrinka played quite well against Federer last time, he could have won...

Number 2 is a nice place to be and to stay, no shame about it! Hope he will be strong enough to stay there longer!

Bottomline is Fed can't be no 1 without winning another GS.

Djokovic vs Federer playing Dubai final tomorrow. They are both a delight to watch on the tennis ground, so it's hard to pick one to rally for. Great entertainers, as well.
