NR is signed up long term, hamilton isn't, it would have been a no brainer (apart from the marketing opportunity lost if lewis left) and given the rumours floating around the lewis wants 1m per week pay for a new deal it would have made perfect sense.
No team would let a current F1 champ walk, like you say marketing returns are huge.

Personally I think any F1 driver should milk as much money as they can from the blue chip teams. After all he is risking his life.

Still has to pass its crash test.

Boss of Ovo Energy is the main man who's stepped in.

Alonso won't be at the first GP in Oz due to his crash during testing.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

he wasn't fired, his contract was up, the last driver to be kicked out in a title winning year was prost I think from mclaren.

Williams have let lots of world champs go piquet, mansell, hill and prost

Was Prost fired? I thought he left to go to Ferrari - IE his choice.

Williams don't like paying mega-bucks for drivers. They got Prost and Senna both on the cheap as they had the best car at the time.

iirc (could be wrong) didn't mclaren appeal senna's disqualification where prost won, so he wasn't fired as such, but it was clear what they thought of him

Manor Marussia will be in Oz for the start of F1. They've passed the crash tests.

Fernando Alonso to miss Australian Grand Prix

So what's this all about? Suddenly realized that he's moved from one pile of junk to another and is desperately wondering how he can get out of it?
Apparently, he woke up thinking it was 1995. Even as his memory came back he still thougt he was a Ferrari driver. If that is the case it seems very wise that he is not allowed to drive

That was pretty much the end of the season - and AFTER Prost has signed for Ferrari. Prost felt that McLaren (and perhaps more over Honda**) were providing Senna with superior service and parts. The story of the Mexico GP stands out - where despite less wing (apparently) Prost couldn't pass Senna on the long straight - when the position was reversed Senna flew past.

**Remember that back in 87 Senna was the reason Lotus got a Honda deal - and that Honda were nailing their colours to the Brazilian. It was his move to McLaren that lead to Williams losing Honda engine for 88. With an unhappy Piquet jumping ship to Lotus (after Senna's move), and Honda opting to back the 3 times champion rather than nearly man Mansell.

The knock on of that was: Williams were uncompetitive in 88 (behind McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus and Benetton), Mansell left for Ferrari in 89 - fell out with Prost in 90; returned to William in 91; won the title in 92; refused to be with Prost in 93; left for CART and won the title there. F1 was a lot more interesting in those days (80-95) than now.

That's as maybe, but I'd rather have Hamilton and Button flying the flag for us than that charm-free zone. He wasn't even amusing in a curmudgeonly way.

There's a round-up of some of the speculation on the BBC.
