Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

It's not looking good for Kaltenborn or Sauber. There doesn't seem to be any chance of Ven der Garde racing this weekend

I don't think he will end up racing, as 3 contracts to two cars just won't go. I think it will end up in some agreement where Van der Garde gets his 8 million Euros back…. not that Sauber can afford that.

I think that's the issue, he won't accept his money back, he wants the drive and his father in law wants the team

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

Van der Garde appeared in the Sauber garage wearing his race overalls as he waited for news...

Kaltenborn has chosen the wrong guy to mess with. His father in law has an very impressive CV. He is a CPA and used to be a partner at EY and started investing. I never liked VDG that much but I am liking him more and more.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

I am Dutch BTW...

I think the Dutch start seizing Sauber assets on Saturday if VDG is not driving or agreement has been found. Yes they want their money back and yes there may be some other issue in the background for the father in law.

Think it will all kick off again once they are back in Switzerland as sauber is in contempt of the swiss ruling, they prevented him getting his super license.

I think if he'd gone ahead and had assets seized, preventing Sauber from racing, it would have affected the whole team. Long term he needs them to be on his side if he's ever going to work with them.

It ties well with him saying he withdrew out of respect for Sauber Motorspot and the two drivers. He's done well to disassociate the team and his actions against management.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

"The Sauber F1 Team can confirm it has been able to agree with Mr Giedo van der Garde that he refrains from driving in the Australian Formula One Grand Prix so it can keep its original planning," the team said in a statement. "The Sauber F1 Team, Mr. Van der Garde and his management will continue to have constructive talks in order to find a mutually acceptable solution. The Sauber F1 Team is here to race in the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and that is what the team is now focusing on. In the course of next week we will be able to give more information."

where is all the talk about Verstappen? 12th on the grid but his teammate apparently has done a better job.

Yes. A very impressive start for Carlos Sainz Jnr. 8th place, in the Torro Rosso, less than 0.2 sec befind Ricciardo's Red Bull. That must be one of the best qualifying positions for a rookie driver, especially at their first race.

There is a long way to go to see if he can maintain that form

What a bore this morning. Back to processions again. The best thing to do would really be to pick the starting positions out of a hat just to liven things up for a couple of laps.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

Given McLaren's poor pre and during race performance it makes me wonder if Alonso didn't somehow crash deliberately so he could get out of racing this weekend. He must be VERY unhappy that he's made the move from Ferrari now. I wonder if we will even see him racing the McLaren this year. Not that I care, he's not a driver I like very much.

I do not think that they are really risking their life these days. That's still the perception based on the 70s... nowadays is F1 probably the by far safest "extreme sport".
Not as much so as in the past…. but try telling Jules Bianchi that!

Thought the new guys all did good today… and Jenson did brilliantly to get that dog of a Honda engine to the finish.
