The 2015 F1 Thread

So who will actually make it to the grid in 2015 for a start

think its a given marussia and caterham are gonners, but its also not looking good for force india, will sauber make it? will they be back markers again? who will fold this year? I'll be surprise if Lotus manage to last the season unless by some fluke they manage to win a race or two

Hoping Williams manage to build on last year's season

Rumour has it that Marussia will come out of administation at the end of the month after receiving new investment.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

Next year will be fun. Honda will have a chance to compete (doubt they will get more tokens for engine changes this season, it wasn't Bernie's fault they didn't compete last season), Mercedes will be back in the realm of approachable (doubt their pace are anywhere near the rest of the field again), and we get HAAS! Haas has a really strong chance of being a good competitor in 2017, but it will be fun to see a new team fielded.

This year, I think RBR will be weak due to Kvyat, Ricciardo could probably still use help developing the car. TR is insane... 2 future world champions there likely.

Would be nice to see some competition, but my wager is Mercedes will still be untouchable. I doubt they hit the theoretical limit of their power unit in the first season of development

HAAS?? lol running a 2nd had ferrari with some no hoping drivers, don't think so, IF they make it to the grid they'll be the new Caterham.

Can't see Marussia coming back unless its just someone turning up to get the prize money from lastyear and then disappearing again

Hoping Williams manage to build on last year's season
The BBC Sport pages this afternoon were showing that the Day 4 Practice Sessions were being led (lap times) by Sauber.

I agree on the Williams comment. They looked really strong last year, compared to where they'd come from in seasons gone.

testing means nothing at all, the sauber could have been (probably was) totally illegal just to get the headlines, all the other teams are saying the merc engined cars where sandbagging too

Based on test times Ferrari will win every race this season.

I suspect that neither the Merc or the Williams genuinely opened the taps.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

if stories are to be believed then Marussia may well be back, they have come to agreements with there creditors (so mostly Ferrari I guess), Ferrari B-team? that will make things interesting come next year, Ferrari, Ferrari B, Haas Ferrari (C team) and (maybe) Sauber Ferrari

And they still wont beat a merc engined car lol

A complete farce if you ask me. Far from standing alongside them, the other smaller teams are going "Oh look, bigger slice of the pie for me"

yep, when push comes to shove the lure of a share of 34m was too great, may help to save sauber, force india and lotus though

Fernando Alonso to miss Australian Grand Prix

So what's this all about? Suddenly realized that he's moved from one pile of junk to another and is desperately wondering how he can get out of it?

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

Dr's said don't race so i recon its more down to insurance then anything else, if he did race against dr's orders the insurance companies wouldn't pay should anything happen.

If he was that interested in driving a winning car why didn't he just say to merc I'll drive for free?

Probably because Merc would have said no with history between Lewis and Alonso.

Re: The 2015 F1 Thread

One of the drivers was saying in testing that they have spent so much time making sure the cars are safe if something goes wrong in a straight line they have ended up creating cars that are incredibly stiff in a lateral collision with very little energy removed before the driver is impacted. The HANS and neck support isn't going to do anything and so the driver's head is allowed to ping between the supports.

When I was racing we used solid engine and gearbox mounts - this was all well and good for dialing out excess weight transfer but in a lateral impact the energy would pass through the mount and break the castings on the gearbox.

Energy has to go somewhere in an impact - so it will be interesting to see what the FIA does to address this problem

NR is signed up long term, hamilton isn't, it would have been a no brainer (apart from the marketing opportunity lost if lewis left) and given the rumours floating around the lewis wants 1m per week pay for a new deal it would have made perfect sense.

If he blitzs NR in the first 6 races Merc may even offer it. If he doesn't, he'll have to be very careful what he demands.

Nico did seem to lose his spark and the back end of last season, kinda hoping merc told him to back off and let lewis win, and they will be allowed to go balls out again this season, else it'll be a snooze fest
