Good fight, good night
I think by tomorrow evening the football fever will be cured in the host countries and many will wonder why we brought this thing here. |

Aw Nathu, It is sad that Switzerland hasn't done more but at the end of the day there are three beautiful city's out there that have tons of visitors and who are providing a fantastic experience.
Hosting isn't all about winning, it's showing your cities in their best dress. (I believe the majority of the Swiss people will carry on regardless) I saw something that will always warm my heart tonight. People waiting to cross the road from the Bahnhofstrasse actually clapping the cars with Turkish flags. I can guarantee they weren't all foreigners. I call that class
Hopp Schweiz.

Just one thing though Oldfox, there are more than three host cities.
I was in Innsbruck on the weekend for the opening, and it is electric there. Nobody thinks Austria has a chance (including the Austrians) but both countries love hosting.
I think they prefer to be known as a nation of perfect hosts as a pose to crazy people locking their daughters up in cellars.

Turkey Vs Switzerland match = Swimming pool for pitch. Look at all those clouds! Yakin's easy miss proved very costly for Switzerland!
So Portugal goes forward from the group and probably will top the group even if Turkey or Czech manage to get 6 points. Good luck next time Switzerland....I mean in the next tournament and not against Portugal
Hop Schweiz!
Scolari confirmed as coach of Chelsea. Ronaldo might be leaving for Real Madrid with a bank breaking deal. Some labeling him as money grabbing traitor I call it business I do think that he would be better of spending another season in England.

Just finished work. 3pm - 2,30am!
OMG at the rain! Should have seen all the people from the lower rows in the side stand all run for cover when it was at its worst. Bloody 'eck.
In other news I shook Gordon Strachan's hand tonight ( ) and also spotted myself for about 1,5seconds on the SF-TV sports report as I was straightening the artificial grass surface for the half time pitch interviews! |

i have 1-2 questions to ask u
why didnt Streller play?
And this newspaper... | | | | | Only the coach knows why Streller didn't play, I think.
As for the newspaper. In the US this is called "bulletin board material" for the locker room. I'm pretty sure the Turkish side saw this, and were motivated by it. It's not the smartest thing for a local newspaper to print. I agree, this was inappropriate.

Well, the Turkish team proved to be better (this time round ) and hurray for them! Would have loved to see Switzerland go for another round, but hey.. we did not expect anything.
As much as I like the Austrians, I hope they join us tonight as "hosts only"... maybe we can share some frustration and can go on partying with the Dutch and Portuguese !!!
As for this "newspaper" - to call it a tabloid would still be too much of an honour.... only good for recycling...
Hup Holland!! Go Portugal!! | Quote: | | | | | Hi guys

Today I showed up for work (2nd nanny job - father is a banker) and there laying on the couter in the kitchen is a Ticket for the EM, with a corporate pass. But it was for last night! OK it was a bit wet but I still would have gone if it had been my ticket....... or at least sold it.

my prediction is ruined. I said all along that both Switzerland and Austria will end up with zero points and score zero goals.
Actually I must say that it did look, until the heavens opened, that Turkey were going to break the Swiss down and win without too much trouble.
After the rain and the goal, the Swiss played well. Even as conditions improved in the second half, they still played well and if they had a cutting edge, they would have won.
Austria have also played well in their first match and if they continue, good luck to them in destroying my prediction.
On Sunday, with both teams having nothing to play for, maybe we see the Swiss surprise Portugal?
All-in-all, not a bad competition.....only one draw to date and that was the bore-draw in Zurich.....

My guess is they'll make small stickers of whoever Switzerland's second favourite team is and stick them on the bars after the 'hopp', thus allowing them a little more longevity...

Personally I am going for Holland (this can be attributed to the fact that they were responsible for Italy's ass kicking, and as an Aussie I am still bitter against Italy since their World Cup match against Australia).

I would be happy if any country but Italy wins the Euro 2008.
