Champions Hockey League

With a 1-5 win in Prague ZSC have booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the Champions Hockey League.

They will meet Espoo Blues of Finland.

The other teams are both Russian, Metallurg Magnitgorsk and Salavat Yulayev Ufa.

It wasn't the hockey lesson that the score implies, the Zett spent a fair amount of time under the cosh, 4 goals coming in about 12 minutes after Slavia overcommited.

This is actually the first time a Swiss club team has beaten a Czech team in a competition. Nice one ZSC.
I'm off to celebrate.

Re: Champions Hockey League

You may have won the Champions League but the play offs don't appear to be bringing much success!

Unfortunately yes. Memo to Sean, Colin and the team:

If you see Julian Sprunger lurking by the far post he's up to no good. Next time MOVE HIM!!!

Who do you have in the semis? Looks like Bern or Kloten depending on how Bern do.

Hopp Bern or Kloten (no of course I'm not bitter )

It'll be Bern or Zug, Zug are 3-2 up in the series and have the next home game . Last year we eliminated Bern in the 1st round, having finished 8th in the qualification (A Gotteron - Bern derby is something to behold). If Zug qualify, we have home advantage in the semis....

Correction, it is Gottéron - Zug in the semifinal, and home advantage to the Dragons

But you were playing Davos on Saturday with home advantage to HCD. Zug are playing Chöötie.

This is true. Was it Gotteron or Biel where the police ended up having to use Gummischrott?

Re: Champions Hockey League

Aye, sorry. I was convinced we were to play Zug, but it ended up being Davos .

I think it was a Bern - Gottéron 1/4 final last year in Bern (Fribourg won ) when Bern fans attacked the away supporters' buses and riot police were deployed. I wasn't there, but I think the bus company have since refused to travel to Bern. 1000s of CHF worth of damage.

Must have been Biel then, it was definitely this season. Biel's fans are a bit loud mind, I went to the first away game at Biel and made the mistake of standing near the netting separating the away and home stehplatz, our ultras got a bit rambunctious and I was suddenly covered head to foot in beer. (no need to throw it, just give it to me and I'll drink it). I must have smelt like Danny Kurmann after a bad performance at the Hasta.

Reminds me of what an Ambri supporting workmate told me once, the SBB used to run special trains from Lugano to Ambri for the Ticino derby (a fixture where you can really feel the love ) but stopped because the Lugano fans kept setting them on fire.

I thought BS originally until the first time I saw LugaNO at ZSC (another fixture which brings out the best in the respective teams fans), after seeing them I decided that, yes, it was believable. Certainly it was the forst time in my life that I got tear gassed.

Don't write Davos off yet, Arno's a crafty so and so.

I think he may have met his match in Pelletier though. Serge and the boys have really done their homework to nullify the "Bergaffen" (a term I borrowed from the SCB boards, made me chuckle ).

Gottéron have their 1st "matchpoint" tonight.

Allez les Dragons!

Well good luck for tonight. I heard on the radio that St Leonard sold out in 8 minutes yesterday.

Wouldn't surprise me

I'll be watching it on the TV, would love to have gone, but the missus is on nights.
Thought we were unlucky on Tuesday, stupid penalty just before the end, coupled with a very efficeint Davos powerplay unit didn't bode well...

Yeah that was bad. Pulling the goalie is always a calculated risk, it paid off against us but not against Davos.

Good luck for Saturday.

Re: Champions Hockey League

What lost it was our powerplay. In the last 2 games, we've had in the region of 11 powerplay situations, including a 4 minuter, without a single goal! Whereas all of HCD's goals on Tuesday came from powerplay. That's just not good enough. Genoni had a blinder last night (as did Caron), but we've really missed Bykov the last 2 games, even though he played a period last night, he clearly wasn't well at all.
It's all in HCD's favour now, I really can't see us beating them again on their turf and I'm seriously worried they might what do they did against Lugano in game 7 of the 1/4s.....

Re: Champions Hockey League

Oh well, over for another year. With all of HCD's talent and budget, it's not surprising they came out on top in the end.

Well talent and budget doesn't always mean success. As a ZSC fan I can assure you of that fact.

Anyway bad luck. It would have been nice to see one of the little guys instead of the usual suspects.
