2010 F1 - Donington

I know that the season is not quite over but this doesn't fit in the 2009 thread.

Donington GP bid looks to be over

Full story

Where will the 2010 British GP be held?

Re: F1 2010

no suprise there really, even if the got the funding on day 1 there was no realistic way all the building work could have been completed in time.

silverstone is the only track in the uk upto f1 standard, no other track has the funds or time to get upto standard.

Re: F1 2010

I hope someone sorts this mess out for the British Grand Prix otherwise there is a chance the venue could be off the race calendar in future years.

No surprise really on this news. There seems to be some real wrangling about who should do what, pity someone cannot grasp the nettle and resolve this with a clear and supported plan.

Re: F1 2010

the problem is a lot of countires run f1 at a loss for the prestiege of running the race and the publicity, as silverstone is owned by the BRDC they cannot afford to run it at a loss so bernie gets less money, bernie keeps screwing around offerning short contracts which are no good for the BRDC as they can't get the finances they need off the back of a short term deal. No idea what bernies big plan is, maybe he still hopes the uk gov will come up with the money (fat chance) or maybe he is pissed off that he is the only uk billionaire without a nighthood, who knows. Its just a shame that every year he goes through the same pantomime with silverstone / BRDC (regardless of who's in charge there)

Re: F1 2010

Soon it will be F1 Third World Racing. With races held in places you couldn't pronounce let alone locate on a map.

F1 is an aspirational sport for countries. Developping countries want to participate so as to be in the same league as the "big boys", as the West. If all the races were held in developping countries... it will lose it's attraction to the developping countries in the first place.

Huge damage is being done to the sport. I think time is right for a new series.

the opportunity for a new series has passed, all the current teams have signed up for multiple years, and the teams have never been able to show a united front, Ferrari always seem to do a little side deal with bernie, and once one team has signed up all the others quickly follow suit to avoid being singled out and getting a worse deal.

Breakaway series just don't work, look and indycar!

I had high hopes for A1GP but that looks like its about to go titsup.

The reason 3rd world countries can afford F1 is mainly down to there lax advertising rules, fags and booze are allowed to be openly advertised, even with cigarette advertising banned in europe Phillip Morris still sponsor Ferrari, people still associate the red and bar code on the wing with Marlboro

Re: The 2010 Formula One Championship

Sky News has just reported that Donnington Circuit has not been able to raise the money necessary for the British GP contract. So, at the moment, it looks like there may not be one.
