Bill McLaren rugby commentator

I know there are a few Rugby fans on here, so you will be sad to hear that legendary commentator Bill McLaren has passed away aged 86

A genuinely sad day for rugby

Re: Bill McLaren rugby commentator

Classic quotes here. I thought he might be a bit before my time (being such a young whippersnapper of course) but listening to his voice it's certainly something I remember filling up the kitchen on a Saturday afternoon during February 5 nations!

Sad news, if only the new lot followed his good example.

And the Organs, a fabulous unbiased man even when Scotland and his son in law were playing.

Wow, that is sad indeed. As far as I am concerned, he was rugby when I was a lad

Re: Bill McLaren rugby commentator

Very sad news. Emotional and so knowledgable, you could really feel the tension and drama in the commentary while still getting a really good report on the action. No reciting of a few well known players names and an obvious lack of knowledge of the rules of the game. There are far too few of the really good sports commentators left now and not many coming through.
