Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

Ouch! Think both lost it. How do you see it?

Imagine if Sampras had gone down on his knees and done a Robbie Fowler

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

I think it was all in jest to be honest. It would have been ugly if Sampras brought up agassi's lying and drug taking.

Kind of trumps not tipping very much

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

looks like Sampras wasn't very impressed with Agassi's impression of him - to me it looked slightly awkward and uncomfortable BUT what a match! Agassi/Nadal v Samprass/Federer in doubles! can only be in my dreams

It would actually beat watching an injured McEnroe play along side Edberg, Krajcek, LaConte, Kafelnikov which i watched last Friday

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

Nice effort to raise donations from both compatriots and it was quite entertaining to watch all of them playing. Just Nadal remained silent and tried to be serious. All were good stunts as they managed to keep the game going in draw until the last point which one or the other team had to win. They didn't look too tense but at some point during serve one tried to wipe out each other off the court aiming at.

Last Saturday, I watched live finals of BNP Paribas Zurich Open the whole day. It was fantastic as we had upper row tickets and managed to find free seats in lower row right next to the VIP boxes. We could watch all the finals and memorable double with Edberg and Chang. Afterwards I went quickly to stand in the queue for celebrities signatures and the kids squeezed right in front of me. When I was about to produce piece of paper Michael Chang asked me if I had a pen, I answered unfort. I didn't then he noded and we both agreed that next time. Just a short dialogue with a star made me proud. The whole event was excellent and well organized. Looking forward to planning for French Open Ronald Garros in coming months.

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

Most of the Senior's tennis revolves around the personalities of the player's with a little bit of playing skill mixed in (check out Monsour Bahrami, for instance).

And while the tipping thing may have been a bit of a cheap shot, it is still good natured ribbing, more or less. Being a bad tipper, when you are a multi-millionaire, is something that people will make fun of. And Sampras' impression of Agassi was hilarious.

They both seemed to look a bit uncomfortable as things went on...as if they weren't sure if the other was pushing too hard. I don't think either has gotten old enough to be 'secure in their own skin." And neither is really a natural jokester.

WRT commenting on someone's addictions, that goes over the line, and I don't see how any humor can be drawn from it. Especially in public.

They should have just done an on court hug and a back slap for the crowd to defuse the tension. I do think they like each other, but old rivalries never fade...

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

Have you guys seen final S.Edberg vs G.Ivanisevic? Although physically much fitter and slightly younger than Edberg, Ivanisevic managed to lose his match why? In the first set it looked like Ivanisevic is gonna kill his opponent six-love but they managed to pull the game in a way so that they keep the score more less equal. Ivanisevic was jestering around with line referees as natural born entertainer and managed to get the crowd involved in the game. In the second set he had to work hard to let Edberg take initiative to win the second set i.e he pretended to miss relatively easy shots and double faulted. It was one-all at this point. In the tie-break they tried to keep result even and the last points were decisive. I think Ivanisevic played too much stunt and eventually lost the whole match. You could tell that he wanted to win it badly in the last points but unpredictable double-fault and good Edberg's return make him subdue.
You should have seen his face afterwards whilst shaking his head in disbelief. That's the name of the game and you have to play every point... you snooze you lose

Hence why I said it would get ugly and didn't say it would get funny

They did hug at the end. I think this has just been blown out of proportion by the media.

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

It is interesting to see what effect it had on young player R.Nadal who didn't get a gist of slang.

Re: Things get ugly between Agassi and Sampras

Sampras = boring,
Agassi = boring on meth....

who cares about 2 ex-champs (and Agassi not even worthy of being called one after his drug confessions) going at it.... all in all boring... just a lame media trying to make a story out of it.....

would loved to have seen this Jacek, I was there on Friday but didn't get to see Ivanisivic who was one of my all time favourite players so we were tempted to try and get tickets for the final - it was all for fun and exhibition though, Henri LaConte on Friday was playing the Mr Bean roll and the locals as you an imagine were lapping it up in hysterics

Shame hey! We had only single day tickets. My better half had two spare ones to give away (from our good tennis clients who are currently in NZ and couldn't use them) just on the day of the event and if had only known...

It was awesome and I still admire GI for playing his unbelievable game. He managed to serve couple of incredible aces 212km/h or even more during the final. He was at his good form and funny as usual.
