I always used to stick a tenner on the most outside chance - 100-1 minimum. I knew it was dead money but nevertheless I enjoyed my yearly gamble. Then one year my horse (pablo's boy I think it was called) was running a fantastic race, 3rd then 2nd and then I believe even 1st, when he was pulled up. In my innocence I was quite pleased - it must be be a good reason and no harm comes to the horse. The tenner was a lost cause anyway.
I must say I was somewhat miffed when my girlfriend at the time, who I may add was seriously into the horse scene, told me it was probably a bookies call to pull the horse. If the horse had won then the bookies would have lost big time.
I'm an outside chance better. I don't expect to win, but if the chance is removed then there's no point. After being told that I never put money on a horse again.
Nevertheless congratulations on your win kevlegs
