South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban

The vuvuzela is a high pitched horn like instrument that is palyed at the matches and sounds like thousands on bees, I find it irritating and spoils the atmosphere. I hope they do ban them.

Re: South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban

I think I heard a few chants during the England game but the incessant
drone of the wretched horns drowned them out. It would be lovely if they could be restricted to the second half or somesuch. I miss the amateur trumpet players...

Me too. I am sick of listening to them. It cant' help the game either as instructions get shouted from the bench and from the captain to the players and with this din it can not be heard.

Indeed...and for all the others, especially the fans who travelled 10'000 km to become deaf...

Let Africa have an African atmosphere. One man's music is another man's noise. Deal with it.

what he said. If you don't want African sounds, don't let SA host it in the first place. What about that odd smell of foreign food...the kebab here doesn't taste the same as in Portsmouth....disgusting.

Re: South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban

I too have a vuvuzela and my husband and I take turns to blow it..ha..
ha..but we are careful not to irritate the neighbours too much.
My dad who is 77 has also started blowing his!
If you're not happy with it,it's best to wear ear plugs
I do understand though that communication can be problematic with the bees buzzing all the time..

yeah i couldnt agree more it gets right on my nerves. The chanting of both sides is drowned out which spoils it for the remaining fans, the players, the broadcasters and the viewers at home.

Apparently the players are finding it difficult. But I have to admit when hubby first turned on the game I thought it was interference.

I was thinking that that was a resonant mode set up due to the design of the stadium and the location of the crowd mics.

I am a bit sad to hear that the din is intentional.

I must say, the Germans seem very distracted by the Vuvuzela.

Ahem. Not too sure if it applies to the entire continent. Did a part of my degree in UCT with lots of South Africans, Kenians, Ivoriens, etc... So far, all my mates from Africa complain about the vuvuzela's awful noise hearing the fans singing and cheering would be so much more fun!
