LOL. I was watching their match vs. Brazil, wondering if there were going to be some old-school cold war defections during the WC... I guess we know now...

I said the same thing when I watched their game. I asked my husband how many guards NK had sent to watch the players so they didn't defect and he laughed. Guess I was right! Good for them!

And then you have people like Jong Tae-Se,who fought to play for North Korea - despite being a South Korean citizen and resident of Japan.

Poor bloke was even over come with tears at the opening game. The world is indeed a funny place.

Just had them over for a meal. Nice chaps. I'll keep'em.
Needed to renew my stock of slaves anyway.

Ha! Interesting about Jong. He's obviously a South Korean plant designed to stop the N Koreans from getting out of the group stages. Every time he got infront of goal with the ball, he hoofed it up the into the stands

I can't believe they ran off, especially after winning 1-0 against Brazil.

Re: North Korea: Four player "absent"...

The Website (tudou) is the equivalent of youtube but without the same level of, umm, control.

Someone uploaded the TV reporting from N Korea.

Or more likely cut together his own... it is a bit too satirical to be true.

They won't dare to.

3 generations of their family would have been sent to the gulag, NK is no laughing matter.

Can't believe FIFA allow NK to participate...if they tried to defect their families would spend the rest of their lives breaking rocks with bigger rocks somewhere.

Wasn't the same true for most Eastern European teams for decades? the only difference was that the KGB, Stasi or Securitate was possible powerful enough to even assasinate the players directly where-ever they go... and they probably even managed to do this without getting detected: http://www.n-tv.de/sport/Verkehrsunf...cle113180.html
