Rep Restrictions

Are there new (or indeed old) rules for giving rep?

I just tried to rep a post and got the following;

rep-restrictions-norep.jpg

Admittedly it's quite an old post, but I'm pretty sure I've managed to give rep for older posts before.

Re: Rep Restrictions

After a certain amount of time (a month?) rep can no longer be awarded.

The beatings shall continue until morale improves, etc.

Re: Rep Restrictions

Also about rep restrictions, but another question:

How much rep can be awarded in 24 hours?

Re: Rep Restrictions

3 "goes" I think. It isn't the amount, but the number of times, so say you can give 5 points, you can't give 15 x 1 point or 5 x 3 points, only 3 goes. That's my experience, anyway.

Re: Rep Restrictions

Can't we increase the rep quota/reduce the restrictions?

I mean, giving three dollops of rep in 24 hrs is like kinder-krippe level... surely EB & co aren't suggesting that we're that low? I'd have thought we'd make at least kindergarten grade.

Re: Rep Restrictions

If the rules are relaxed very much there is a risk that some people may receive disproportionate amounts of rep.

It can occasionally be frustrating but I think that is better than overdoing it.

Well, just, you know, more... ummm <looks at shoes hoping mod will ask someone else>

I'm not fussed about the limit (i.e. max 5 rep points per go), but only 3 in 24 hrs is a pain, given that 90% of my activity is between 08:30-17:30 hrs, that's a small window.

Just 30 points over 24 hrs would be an improvement.

Or how about giving us 15 points over 24 hrs to distribute as we want, e.g. 1x15 to 3x5 and everything in between? (Don't know if that's do-able.)

The "sharing the love around" is a bit annoying too - believe it or not I wanted to pos-obviously -rep you, but needed to share the love around before giving you more. Now I've forgotten what I was going to rep you for and can't be arsed to go find the post - although it was worth it at the time, no really, it was...

Nope already said size doesn't matter - but who wouldn't want to do it more?

Hmm...or we could do 21 dishings per week instead of 3 per day. As you can probably tell, I have as much sway with this as you do, but I'll divert EB's eyes to this thread.

Thank goodness for that. I thought it must have been me. I assumed I'd definitely gone senile 'cos it rang no bells at all.

Re: Rep Restrictions

So, anyway. I voted for the last one because it was the least worse.

For me, in an ideal world I'd have a variation on option 2.

A user would have a set number of points to dish as they please, but I'd still prefer a limit of 5 per post. 15 (or 25 if the dishability was increased) point negs for newbies(or anyone else) is a bit OTT and was the cause of all the angst in the first place.

How about the rep you give somehow being deducted from your own, and the negative added to your own (maybe not one for one but in some proportional way). That way the people who dollop out loads of red ones get some negative rep themselves, and we learn to think twice before distributing the greenies too freely?

Re: Rep Restrictions

People who get hit by the Red Blob Brigade should be able to still give rep. And givers of red blobs should receive a 50% negative hit to their own rep.

I'll also be interested to see how many red blobs I get just for sharing this opinion.

I like givin' rep. Seriously after a long day I appreciate when somebody makes me laugh or smile or think about somethin' different.

5 x 5 would be nice

Re: Rep Restrictions

Who cares?

It's a game on the internet. It doesn't mean anything outside the context of the forum.

I love needling people who get on my tits with red blobbies, and being nice to people who are funny with green blobbies. If I could give or take 100 points either way, I would. The fact that I can't is neither here nor there.

It's just a bit of fun. Once the EF window is closed and the Youtube window with cairn terriers is open, none of it matters one jot.
