Rep for Newcomers

It's always sad to see those little grey blobs. They look so sad and lonely.

How about automatically giving a few rep points to new users that post a thread in the intros forum?

Or is that a terrible idea?

It's a terrible idea. Neg rep sent.

I think a nice, welcoming post is a good idea!

How about you doing that yourself? Go on--give it a try. Give 1 green blobbie to every newbie who posts an intro. It will definitely be interesting to see how long that lasts...

I can only give three times a day. If I did that then there's be none left for pretty cups and cookie posts.

Besides I can't be arsed. That's why automatic is good.

(I'm just messing with ya ... respect)

[serious mode]
It messes with people's perception as it make it difficult to distinguish 1 post trolls.
we need more of those...

Re: Rep for Newcomers

This is Switzerland. People have to earn their respect. Don't want foreigners to think it's all fun, games and yodeling here.

Re: Rep for Newcomers

It took me ages to notice the rep thing. Having waved my cursor over it by accident it said "Sandgrounder has no particular reputation" or some such, and I thought "Oh, that makes a pleasant change..."

Re: Rep for Newcomers

As someone who has had their ( meagre ) allocation of reps decimated by a disgruntled moderator who didn't like his words of wisdom being disagreed with, could someone enlighten me as to what purpose the reps serve?

I am not asking for free reps ( although it would be nice ) but just what do they mean? Are they merely baubles that serve no real purpose other than to...er...give the more established members some way of showing their greater establishment?

I use EF almost exclusively from tapatalk app on my iPhone and you can't see any of the thanks/groans/rep on there. Would be nice to thank someone occasionally but I have to make a special effort to go into EF via web browser to do that so I need to be really grateful to bother.

Yes, it is to show how great I am. Nothing more!

(And to drive some people crazy who can't handle a red rep and take it personal! Lots of fun & drama!)

Rep is life.

It's that important.
