| | | How seriously are you considering departing EF permanently?
Over the past few days I've been watching EF and the threads relating to the new terms and conditions. Initally I was only concerned about a couple of my photos and I was kindly advised about how to remove them.
It was also rather humorous to see members deleting others and the general caos ensuing from the poor PR exercise that has been the EF T&Cs. It made a tedious job I was doing yesterday easier to bear.
But this post and a few others relating to the legal ramifications of continuing to post on this site have me concerned.
I was tempted to push the button and delete but this post has me second guessing it.
I'm in two minds. I've discovered some lovely friends through this forum (the only forum I've been an active member of) and I met some nice new ones last weekend. But the forum feels a little evil at the moment (as in Facebook evil) and just like Facebook I'm seriously considering the delete button (no matter how permanent that may be on EF).
Are you?

I was considering it - nothing to do with the T&C's more to do with the fact that finally there is a way to actually close your account - I don't post as much anymore - I still feel annoyed at myself way back when choosing such an original user name - I'd love to re incarnate myself as a new more anonymous user - but it seems I can't as that evil DB will be out there watching for my typing style to see if he can catch me out | | The following 11 users would like to thank Nickers for this useful post: | adrianlondon, Dougal's Breakfast, Jam2011, Longbyt, nic80, Nil, Oldhand, Ouchboy, Peg A, Sky, Swiss Cheddar |

Then when you feel like popping back in, you can. No drama, no fuss.
It's just like any other business. You wouldn't stand at the door of Migros and yell that you weren't coming back and that you were snipping your Supercard.

I believe that the various Migros in Geneva report a guy doing that regularly though | | The following 3 users would like to thank Caviarchips for this useful post: | |

I have no option to vote for. I’m not going anywhere but I don’t think it’s a storm in a teacup.
The atmosphere is very heavy.

Nic, personally no. Granted that the way that the new T&C werent communicated well, but if you think about it, its like a company after any merger/takeover. New management in place without thinking through the internal comms/procedures and simply shoots out the new policies via email. Obviously that'll ruffle some feathers.
There will be people who choose to leave but there are just as many who stick it out and see how it pans out as no one can deny that there are lots to benefit from this community. The dust will settle down after a while. Hang in there

Even though reading it again, it could be read as one. I was just wondering how many others were feeling as disenfranchised and concerned as I currently am. I'd considered just fading away too, as not deleting the account means I can still message people and reply to events etc. | Quote: | | | | | I have no option to vote for. I am a fairly recent arrival on here and do not have "what it was like in the old days" to compare with and so, as such, am not as bothered by the changes as people who have been here longer.
This kind of heavy atmosphere is not limited to commercially run forums though. I participate in another forum that is run on a totally non-commercial, community basis; on that forum there was recently a big argument over the admins' attitude to certain people and certain posts (attitude judged as over the top/control freakish by some), which resulted in some members leaving and many more threatening to do so. The dust eventually settled though.
I think summerrain has got it right - it's the online community equivalent of the coffee-area conversations that happen after a reorg or a takeover. Some people aren't that bothered, some need to vent their anger/frustration, others don't want anything to do with the new organization. With all the debate going on, nobody does any real work for a few days or weeks then things get back to something like normality.
