I have some interesting observations to make on this topic but I'm not posting them here in order not to use up my daily posting allowance.
You could post a digest of your entire thoughts for the day.. rather like The Archbishop of Canterbury.

Re: Caught out by Post Count

  1. Start a new thread called "Words of wisdom from Longbyt"
  2. Post words of wisdom
  3. Edit post as required to insert latest wisdom content without triggering arbitrary fluff limiter
  4. Feel smug that you have circumvented the forum policy and that your lack of contribution to the overall post count is causing more people to run into the post restriction

The bar gets lower month on month as posting on EF decreases.

It made sense a few years ago when EF was an enormous creamy trifle, but these days, when it isn't much more than a ginger snap, it just gets in the way.
Have to admit, that not even your twice weekly avatar changes have made up for my recent lack of motivation (sigh). When I discovered EF in August you had a huge hamburger (fading memories...). Those were the fun days (sigh).

P.S. am speaking to you from the other side of the deceased EF curtain (having quit yesterday)...

Cmon, Zuri... let storms blow over, take a high road. There will be people irritated if you show different opinions, and show you behind the scene since that's when they feel the strongest, try to intimidate. It is sad, really.

Let it be, stay away from soul sucking tit for tat retaliation.

Welcome back, btw.

Anyone any good bad jokes?
Do posts in OT actually count for the post count stats? I should probably know this.

On-topic fun is one thing but this is a thread hijack.
Be good fellows and go out for a drink somewhere or find somewhere else to play.
I cannot afford to use all my precious posts to get this back on topic all the time.

This daily / weekly posting limit is pure bullpoop, it's the only forum I know that implements this stupid feature and in the end it just penalises people who contribute a lot.

Common sense would see the rule removed, but sadly common sense has never played much part in the running of this forum.

Yup, that's why EF stands out. Personally hate Face Book (so now it's also introducing the groan), as well as You Tube. EF is many quality levels above that. You can barf as much as you want, but it's true...

EF isn't even remotely comparable to Facebook or Youtube, so that's just a bizzarre comparison either way.

Strange...I admin some vBulletin boards and just checked the Admin Control Panel on one and can't find any place to set such limits, not that I can think of any reason too. On the other hand, we do have sections that register no post count to dampen the ardor for PWing.

...well, on second thought, one reason to set such limits is to limit spambots. A couple of months ago we were getting over 1,000 spams per day from Asia, and that is a PITA to ban and remove.

Re: Caught out by Post Count

Sorry this is a bit long, but for understandable reasons, I don’t want to write it all in separate posts.

Posting limits. They helped to limit fluff and prevent spam from flooding the forum. Earlier many new spam accounts were coming in with multiple threads and posts. The account and threads could be removed with OTBC but the PMs sent from the new accounts were annoying but were invisible to the Moderator team. The multiple PMs were stopped by limiting Newbie’s PMs (another unpopular ruling to those who don’t understand why it was done).
Stopping Fluff: Baiting Mods is always fun (for the baiters, not the baited) and posting fluff is a wonderful way of hitting Mods from both sides at once. The Fluffies think they have a right to hijack threads and write as many posts as they like. (multiple PMs to Mods and New Threads to complain when posts are deleted or threads closed - „its our Forum“). On the other flank the many who are irritated by fluff, the poor impression it gives of the forum and the number of Today’s Posts which are total rubbish in their eyes. (Multiple PMs to Mods and New Threads lamenting the weakness of the Moderator team in not doing anything about it.)

Stopping Spam: I’m not sure on this but I think with the presence of the ever-vigilant Spam Deputies a lot of the ‚New Member Account Spam‘ now gets OTBCed before it hits the deck.

Posting limits. It was a good idea at the time. Removing the limits is not a thing the Moderator team have the power to do.

So I shall have to keep one eye on my stats and be selective about the posts I decide to write until the danger is, once again, a thing of the past.

It's perhaps worth pointing out that these days the PMs are also removed via the OTBC function. Otherwise, your explanation is spot on.
