But "please delete my thread because I want it deleted" was never going to wash, was it?
Not his turn on the laundry rota.

You guys really like to gang up and kick someone when they are down. You are really harsh and go in for the total kill. It's very sad how harsh EF can be sometimes and turns people away who really want to participate.

Hello,

For a long list of reasons, can you delete my thread:

To SVP: Stop picking on Muslim Women

Thanks,

MakeABigWish
Well, what exactly is in that long list of reasons?

What are you so down about?

I thought you'd be happy with the compromise - your thread was closed for being 'wildly off topic', even though it only stuck to the topic. The mod made an exception to please you, against the standard protocol.

Don't expect that showing up on the forum to participate- and then wanting to change the rules because people don't agree with your stance- will win you much sympathy.

Just because your opinion isn't accepted as gospel doesn't mean that harsh EFers are 'going in for the kill'...

You're in a hole. The more you dig, the more you'll get kicked. Stop digging...

I wiil never win with this crowd if I take this bait.

I spent a lot of time responding to five pages of posts trying to answer and clarify in a better way. If I wasnt up for different opinions I would have just blown everyone off and walked away and not spent the time trying to bridge their thoughts with the real underlying premise of my main thought. Others who agreed or even just partially agreed with me did not help me out much and I was pretty much out there on my own. I can't be the only person in CH that is concerned about how negative ethnic images must make the people being depicted feel.

Believe it or not, just before it went weird my next post was going to say I need to start with myself and be the change I was asking for. As an example, I was going to apologize for my ranting opening, since I'm accusing SVP of demonizig and instead not demonize in return but restate my opening much more diplomatically. But I couldn't do this because the thread quickly started to veer towards the deep end

I didn't know asking to delete a thread when it started to go weird would be a big deal, I thought it was going to start getting fanatical, offensive and way out of control, start going even more into sensitive topics like recent wars and people being hurt, etc and I didn't think of the option of asking it to be closed. This was my first polical post.

Frankly I didn't read the whole thread. Only 2 or 3 posts. Was it really that bad? I doubt...
Anyway, I must confess I do not understand why are you so upset. Those posters are sooo old. Btw, have you seen any, like recently? I am curious.

But you took it anyway.

Consider this a relatively painless learning experience. You may have embarrassed yourself a bit, but your rep is still positive and you've not actually made yourself look a complete arse (yet), so you could have done worse.

There are new ones out now. The same image keeps getting used and its starting to become a pattern.

But that is the topic of the closed thread not this thread.

Apart from the other things you wrote, this stuck out to me. The Internet is not the place where one can easily delete one's entered data. In multiple places on this forum (as well as in many places on the rest of the net) people are advised to only post what they would tell a wide audience.
Deleting a post is not going to make readers forget what was written; although deletions might give such an impression, it isn't the case. Mods generally tell members to only post after previewing what they wrote, or to edit the post within the given timeframe (several hours for some posters).

Altered posts can make it very hard to understand a thread's original context.

Thank you for your explanation, at any rate.

Perhaps you are sincerely trying to help me.

Instead I am feeling bullied.

This is what the whole thread was about in the first place. Sticking up for people who are out on a limb on their own, being depicted harshly and told not to have much of a voice about it against the stronger pack. Just go along with it and be quiet about it.

addition later:

More clearly. Perhaps a better explanation than "bullied" is I feel this person is repeatedly telling me not express myself, go along, be quiet. No one else in the conversation is being told to be quiet.

Re: please delete my thread

But interestingly this has become a thread about you being supposedly picked on by a bunch of people you chose to interact with, had every opportunity to walk aways from, and in many cases were clearly trying to help you.

There's a world of difference between this and the women you originally claimed to be supporting who are very genuinely in danger and threatened.

It cheapens your entire argument to claim a polite statement makes you feel "bullied", while also making the whole thing completely ineffective and therefore actually damaging to the cause.
