You can't selectively go back and re-write history. I hope the mods stick to the rules and refuse to delete it.

Of course.

There's been a few like this recently, and through the goodness of our hearts we've sometimes gone and selectively edited out identifying details, while ensuring the discussion still made sense.

But regardless of who started it, a discussion is not the property of any individual, and the information contained therein may still be useful and/or educational to many.

EDIT: But there might be a case for closing or splitting a thread that's gone wildly off-topic.

Re: please delete my thread

I guess that the most that they may do is remove specific individual posts if there is a very good reason e.g. Harrassment, illegal content etc. If there are individual posts, report them to the mods via the red triangle. It would be very unusual for them to delete a complete thread, especially as it has a lot of posts. The only other likely option is that they may close it if it has gone seriously off topic and doesn't show signs of getting back on topic again

There are similarities between Threads in EF and a Patek watch:you never own it.

Even if the useful and/or educational bit is, in effect, the realisation that the Internet is not the best place for information or ideas which one doesn't want the whole world to hear about and possibly remember.

The nice thing about the EF is that so much new trash gets posted every day (and this combined with the search function being somewhat suboptimal) that all but the most epic of threads do get forgotten fairly quickly.

This is the second such request you've made in less than a week.

Can I suggest that if you don't like people disagreeing with you, then you stop posting?

Once it was clear that the house wasn't actually lying on its side I lost interest.

I presumed that they just lived on the equator and that someone from Kenya or Indonesia would help.

In Adrian's case it's acceptable, as the feeling is entirely mutual.

Ouch.

That is mean spirited.

Perhaps I asked for the same reasons the mods closed it? (I didn't realize at the time of I posted this thread that closing would be an option).

The other post I asked deleted was for an event cancelled and the host preferred not to have details given out and I wanted to protect this person, nothing having to do with opinions.

Yes, I realize we all have strong opinions on these big topics but does this forum really have to be so gruff sometimes?

Re: please delete my thread

I thought a moderator probably closed it as a compromise. It will slowly vanish from the front page which is the next best thing to deleting.

You said you have a long list of reasons - there is a good chance "people not agreeing with you" will be on that list. No?

Perhaps. No way of knowing since you didn't state your reasons. You could have contacted a mod privately with the reasons if you didn't want them known publicly. I have done this in the past.

But "please delete my thread because I want it deleted" was never going to wash, was it?
