Call on the moderators c^&s - or troll the legends a bit - it should get you a lifetime ban.

Re: Unsubscribing from English Forum

If you mean delete your account instead - then not going to happen I'm afraid.

Otherwise just go into the Control Panel, down on the lefthand side you'll see Subscribed Threads. If you click on that you'll get a list of the threads you're subscribed to. Tick all the boxes on the righthand side then under that lot is an option to Delete Subscription. Choose that option then click Go and job done. Then log out of the forum and you'll never hear from us again.

Re: Unsubscribing from English Forum

I'm surprised there's no option to delete the account - in EU jurisdictions this is a legal requirement, and even in CH the data protection act says:

Section 3 Art 12.

"Anyone who processes personal data must not unlawfully breach the privacy of the data subjects in doing so.

2 In particular, he must not:
b. process data pertaining to a person against that person's express wish without justification"

https://www.admin.ch/opc/en/classifi...153/index.html

I have no desire to leave EF, but think I should have the right to at least have my account completely cleared; even if the login name can't be removed (and they're supposed to be anonymous anyway), it should be possible to remove all attached data including the email address.

I trust the EF admins on the "never hear from us again" promise, but sites get hacked all the time and there's a load of very frank posts on here with email addresses against them if someone gets in.

Re: Unsubscribing from English Forum

As has been said before when the question of deleting an account is raised, what you've already posted is already archived somewhere on the net so even deleting the account won't get rid of the info.

"As with anything you post on the interwebs, it's now a matter of history, and you can't change it."

"They can not erase internet history. There are sites like waybackmachine that keep snapshots of the internet for one."

Deleting account, posts and threads

Re: Unsubscribing from English Forum

Threads like this are always a bad idea because they encourage nosy buggers (like me) to go back through the OP's posts to find out what, exactly, they want to make disappear...

ETA: Aw... nothing juicy at all.

. . .
He could hang around long enough to gain 100 rep points, then systematically go through and delete the contents of his old posts. This desperate technique, though, would be useful only for someone who really had something to hide.

Hi,

I am planning to start a forum for expats in Switzerland.
It will be a great community where you can meet fellow expats.

Re: Unsubscribing from English Forum

We do not routinely delete accounts. You can edit your profile and contact details (e.g. change your email address to a disposable account) and simply stop using the forum.

http://www.englishforum.ch/profile.php?do=editprofile

If you used an identifiable user name, we can also change the user name to something a little more anonymous. Just contact a moderator to help with this.

Not with the email address, that is not linked to the username publicly.

But as mirfield says, you can just change all the personal details to some junk values I guess.

How do I unscubscribe from English Forum?
Bottom line is why should unpaid and usually unthanked volunteer moderators spend their free time deleting your account just because after 15 post you've changed your mind?

Just go away and don't come back. I'm still a member of numerous forums I joined over the last 17 years where I haven't logged on for years..

The posts and username should stay but the perdonally identifiable information (usually just IP records and an email address) should be deleted

Personal email addresses shouldn't be included in posts and mods delete all those that are spotted. Some do get missed of course. If you see one, report the post and it should get deleted
