Given the current climate on EF, I won't ban you outright just yet — but one more post from you full of cancerous shit and you're out of here for good.

If you can't debate a point without resorting to insults and offensive language, go elsewhere.

For me I am happy to see a poster moving from supportable arguments to foul and emotional statements; it simply creates increasing opposition to their views rather than building support.

Good ban, well caught. And just as I'd checked their profile to see if their nationaility was given.

Re: Porsch1909

Pity that reteretere was banned before I could give him some negative rep, which as far as I can remember I have never done before, so that is saying something!

He definitely deserved the banning, hopefully nobody will now start a thread called "reteretere".

I think "Was reteretere Porsch?" would be more fun.

For my part I am not - I'd much rather see people move to more rational points of view and question the views they had previously. I've held many daft views in my youth - I was pro-IRA when I was about 8 years old - then as I started to encounter lots of data points that position became untenable - for last 30 years (I'm old) I've become extremely anti-IRA. Similarly I was very very anti-abortion - because of threads on different boards I've come to revise my views.

Very very occasionally you encounter someone who has a viewpoint , changes it as a result of new data and then has the good grace to acknowledge that perhaps you've helped them come to a more rational viewpoint - such people give me hope for humanity.

That thought occurred to me too but reteretere's sign-up date didn't make sense, under the circumstances, and Porsch wasn't that offensive or extreme. And Porsch is a cricket fan, which reteretere clearly is not.

Re: Porsch1909

Are there any guidelines in terms of swear words one is allowed to use on EF? At the moment any swear word seems to be tolerated by all.

Re: Porsch1909

To be clear, it wasn't the swearing that got reteretere banned. It was the racial hatred and refusal to tone down the aggression after being warned (and the puerile response to the warning).

Rep comments are private so not sure where you got that from but there are usually two sides to every story.

Anyone who has read Pashosh's posts in here will see that he is not whiter than white when it comes to hurling insults either.
Yes, he did sometimes hurl insults, but often with underlying tongue in cheek humour. And he didn't go around harbouring stale feuds. You could disagree with him violently on one thread and then exchange funny banter with him on another more or less simultaneously. That made it easier to disagree with him in a respectful manner. Not like some other people who think EF is about all out war.

There's a filter on EF that screens out certain vulgarities by simply deleting them — such as and . Therefore, by omission, I suppose other swear words are considered acceptable (one of those decisions with which I don't agree personally, but as a moderator and a member of EF, nevertheless have to accept). But the real question is, does one have to use swear words or is one capable of formulating a reasoned argument without resorting to basic language?

Ok. Well in my dealings with Porsch, I never perceived any direct anti Semitism and I have met the guy and he knows my heritage. I missed the online altercation.
If there is one thing I can ever agree with you, it's this.

I know him in real life and he is nothing less than a nice friendly guy. Is he anti semitist? Looking at people he is surrounded, not at all.

So the answer is yes then.

That thought had crossed my mind too but some of reteretere's posts seemed to be quite well informed and educated so I quickly discounted that as a possibility.

No, the answer is that one may use some swear words, if one must.

This is hardly clear, surely clear policy is needed here for all.

The jewish faith has many "issues" (much more than just moneylending) which led to it being disliked by pretty much everyone. And not just dumb people, the list goes from far-right nationalists to left extremist philosophers over the history of 2000 years. Pretty much every major philosopher up until 1950 hated the jews openly. Even people like Pestalozzi, Rousseau etc.

So yea, banning somebody for "antisemitism" is a joke and can't be taken seriously.
It's better to burn out, then fade away!

If it was clear, folk would refrain from using bad language, yet it contiues to be an accepted means to get their point across or just use it in a figure of speech because they know they can.
