| | | Pet related posts in jobs?
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but, I have noticed a whole bunch of post's for dog/cat sitters cropping up in the jobs section, when the pets section has a heading which includes boarding.
So, my question is should one of you spidey sense guys move them, or should the heading of pets be changed?. My understanding was that anything pet related went into pets, unless it was animals for sale/free in which case they went into the pet trading post.

A word of warning on this subject to both pet owners and sitters to be. As a result of an unfortunate incident which was documented on this forum I took some time to look at the legal positions.
Be aware that if a pet sitter looks after an animal in your own home then no qualifications are required and that makes things pretty simple (as long as everything goes according to plan). However, if the pet sitter looks after your animals on their own premises (for payment) they are subject to the animal protection laws, which means that they MUST be qualified (and that means a Swiss qualification or one that is recognised) as their home would equate to a "Tierheim". Anyone looking after other people's pets in their own home without the necessary qualifications is therefore acting illegally.
Just thought that bit of information might be of use in this context.

Reason: added clarification "for payment"

I happen to know that the person of the incident you mentioned is insured and does have a self employed business - however what you have just mentioned above may mean that they need to make sure they have the 'qualifications'
However I hope i don't need to get them to do a friend a favour...
anyway back on topic sorry for the 2 hijacks PG

Can you hijack your own thread if so here's #3 - in terms of pet sitting, do the same rules apply to the casual looking after of a pet for a mate for a time, as opposed to someone is adverting as sitter, which is understandable?
And where should the folks put there ad's |

Luckily Switzerland has not yet reached the depths that the UK has in this respect. Looking after a friend's dog as a favour is not covered by this law. The law stipulates that it must be "gewerbsmässig" (i.e. commercially). It is probable that a case of beer would not be considered payment
For reference the law is the Tierschutzverordnung (TSchV) vom 23. April 2008 (Correct to 1st March 2009). And this point is covered in articles 101 and 102. I will not post a copy here as it is almost 1MB, but anyone who wants a copy can PM me.

Personally, I would prefer to have the people offering pet sitting / boarding services in the Pets section, only because they would be easier to find if they were all in one location vs. a mishmash of areas. I also think that the Pets section moves a bit slower, again making them easy to find.
Snoopy - I do appreciate you post, and am very sympathetic to all parties involved regarding the incident you described. It was a tragic accident no dog owner or care taker wants to go through. I'm a bit torn because I don't want to condone illegal activity ( i.e. taking care of a pet for money when you are not insured and/or licensed to do so) but I also think that if a dog/car owner makes the choice to leave their pet with said person (every owner should be asking these types qualification questions when choosing a minder), they need to be ready to accept the consequences of choosing so should anything happen. I myself have been put into a situation where I needed someone at last minute, they weren't licensed, but I don't expect them to keep my animals for free - so I've used them. I think it would be a bit of a shame not to let these people offer their services, it's just very important to stress for owners choosing these people to be ready for anything that might arise of doing so.
I've found all of my sitters through the forum - they are fantastic people, love my animals like their own - it's a great resource for pet owners and I hope it can remain as such.
