Visitor messages are not private

This may seem obvious to quite a few of you, but there are still a number of people who haven't yet realised that everybody, including guests, can see whatever you've written to a member as a visitor message. I've seen a couple of visitor messages that contained obviously private information and duly warned the people involved

To do a PM from a profile page you have to first go to the "Contact" tab in the member profile. From there you can send a PM.

Obvious things to not put in a visitor message are email addresses and telephone numbers, especially as the profile pages are available to guests and therefore spiders.

I don't think there's been enough warning about this, and that some people, newbies and irregular users for example, think that visitor messages have replaced PMs.

If this has already been mentioned and discussed than I apologise, but if I missed it the first time round then other people will have also missed it, and IMO it's something that every member here should be aware of.

I am aware of this and it's why I intend to create a new user account (Brett's Mum or something equally catchy) and leave myself some saucy messages.

If you click on a profile it's practically the first thing you see - you can't miss them

Yeah, I've noticed it and it is DAMN annoying, cuz I just want to see their profile without having to waste another click.

I also agree that it is a feature that causes more pain than good. I don't really see the point for it in the first place; this is a forum, not FB.
