Normally, we do not delete user profiles. I don't see anything out of the ordinary with yours, so I'm not sure why you'd want to delete it.

Re: facing problem [want to delete profile]

One important thing to remember when dealing with public comment is it's there for ever and may as well be on the front page of the NY Times with your byline. Anyone signing up to EF confirms the terms and conditions and while this information remains only on these boards, the posts are considered public domain.

Generally contact a moderator if you have user issues; most of us don't bite and we're here to make the Forum a pleasant place to contribute and enjoy

Re: facing problem [want to delete profile]

Lol :-)
One reason that springs to my mind is the people using their real names or using their real photos as Avatar. Avatars can be changed, but the name you are stuck with. And some of the names reveal more than you would want to.

Re: facing problem [want to delete profile]

Any of the Mod's will help, such as Uncle Max or evilshell who replied to this thread earlier. Try sending either of them a private message and explain why you want to change or delete your profile and I'm sure they will help. To send a private message, click on their name above and select "Send a privte message to..." from the pop-up list.

Re: facing problem [want to delete profile]

When you select your username, it's in the knowledge that this info will be made public. We do not change usernames for various reasons:

1) We expect people to live by their decisions
2i) Changing name doesn't change history: your quoted posts will always be referred to by your old name, so no point
2ii) The internet will remember everything you've ever done online. Beware!
3) In exceptional situations, Mods may consider changing a users name, but it's rare.
4) With 600,000+ posts, we've enough to do without being Mother.

Hope that helps.

Please contact Moderators if you have genuine cause for concern.

Here's a link to the reminder of the rules. As written, it's not explicity mentioned that your posts are uniquely held on EF, but it's a given. EF has no reason to do anything with your comments than display them on the Forum. For what they're worth

Either way, anyone can harvest your posts: they're in the public domain for ever.

Yes, I've seen that one before, which doesn't mention anything about public domain. Maybe this is just a mis-understanding as 'public domain' has a very specific legal meaning, whereas I think you mean that the posts are just 'in the public' rather than 'public domain'.

EDIT: the message on the thread you posted isn't the same as the message you agree to when signing up.

Re: facing problem [want to delete profile]

I meant exactly what I wrote: "in the public domain". If you admit to fancying your boss in a thread, don't come running to us to get out of bed and adjust your post once you get cold feet. That's all.

Intellectual property? Where? The Forum itself is owned and operated by The Local Europe GmbH. Here's the 'imprint'

Which is quite frankly the best reason for never using your real name as a user name on an internet forum. Although I'm sure it could be done, I think it would be very difficult for a random somebody to link the name "Slaphead" to me (the real person), despite the fact that a number of you know me personally.
