| | | Proposed feature: singles area
Since we seem to have quite a few singles events where it is clear that only singles should be present I've been thinking of bringing back a part of the forum which I killed off long ago due to lack of interest.
So at the moment I am wondering whether this is really a good idea or not. The question is - would such an area be used, or would it just be a total waste of time?
If I were to create such an area I would want someone else to moderate it. Would someone like to put their hand up for this?
Should the area be visible to members only (like off-topic) or should it be open to all to see?
What should it be called? What should the short description be?
Some guidance from single people would be appreciated...

I vote members-only and perhaps name it something different to prevent "Dating Spammers".
"Bar Fly" or something?

As a resident single, I enjoy the events the Britta organises, however I'm not sure if we need a dedicated area. At least from my point of view, being single is a status, not a lifestyle choice.
So while I'd also be happy to moderate it at this moment, I'd also drop it like a hot brick as soon as I meet that special someone who feels sympathy for guys with red hair.

I'm with Diem. Not the red hair thing, just that I don't think it needs a dedicated area. It makes the whole thing more formal than it ought to be.

Is there such a stigma in being single, boys?
Or in fact being together? |

So are you saying it's a good thing or a bad thing when the footy's on?
Surely you need somebody to walk to the beer-fridge for you? Us singles have to risk missing a crucial part of the game (at least, those without Sky+ Live Pause of course )

Well, being the one who offers most of the singles event, I should chip in my five rappen, too. First of all: I think you are doing a great job, and I think whatever additional work is done should be clearly worth it.
I post on the englishforum to get the word out. So, it makes sense to be visible to all. In addition, I have a mailing list which I use before going on the forum or which I would use if I did not want the event to be public. Maybe, there are also non-singles who have single friends and tell them that something is going on. I think creating a separate area would make it less likely for people to see the events.
So, as long as non-So30s are fine with the fact that there will be events that are not geared towards them (just like other events also aim at a certain audience - for example, I am just too slow a biker to participate in the race, but still wish you guys a great time), I would rather stay where people can see my stuff.
And, yes, if my singledom should ever come to an end, I would no longer post singles events.

Singles events could also be posted there if it seemed the right thing to do. The primary way people see events is also if they are linked into the calendar - so it doesn't matter where they go in the end.
But it was just an idea - but it doesn't seem to have received a good response anyway so I'll drop it.

Nooooooooooooo dont drop it tats my singleness speaking
As a predominantly single person... (hey i have my good days... err weeks... err months... err pooooo ), I think it will be gr8 to have a singles section in whatever form, but we are not that populated enuf in the wonderful swissland to segregate it atm....
But we should definitely not drop the idea altogether and keep it in the back of our minds, considering the recent traffic and who knows where we would go... Vishi
