Another one down! (So long Dervaish)

I'm sure you're having a blast somewhere discussing American politics with Morganon, how Soviet Russia was a delightful vacation with Canadian Dude, and Karmic Physics with theShepherds. Ciao mec!

Wow! A permanent ban?! I didn't realize that was possible.

Re: Another one down! (So long Dervaish)

This is wierd. I thought Dervaish was fine if a bit fond of himself, used to enjoy a bit of a battle of wits with him. What on earth did he do?

Cheers

AFAIK challenged some mods to stop being up themselves. This could of course be conjecture on my part, but I can't see anything else other than the too much noise thread and the Scientology thread.

Re: Another one down! (So long Dervaish)

I must say, all this banning and stuff takes all the fun out of this forum.

And if it's no fun anymore, all experienced expats will leave this forum and who is going to answer all the questions from the newbies then ?

I genuinely cringed to hell and back, like watching a 10-hour marathon of The Office, reading his posts in that thread yesterday when he was having the spat with 22_yards about his Einstein-like intellect and how amazing he was, and how he thought no-one found him annoying... and I really didn't detect any sarcasm or self-deprecation in his posts. He was harmless, but somewhat unrealistic, bordering on delusional in his opinion of himself. Don't get me wrong, I have as many faults as the next man, but jeebus... i'm not surprised he's been banned for the third and final time. Ok, it was amusing on some level though.

Both were being pompous a55es, but only one is gone.

I will miss Derv as I miss C_d, they spiced the EF up a lot with their rather interesting points of view.

Beigification?

Is Kerry47 the new Derv, or is it someone trying to sell something?

Oh definitely. And here is a gift for all those who want a forum with absolutely no noise

I don't understand why we'd want a clean forum, surely there's a search by post function for people who want to access specific bits of information? The forum is composed of about 20 to 30 regulars who make up the bulk of the posts, both signal and noise. Take away their fun and you lose the forum.

Does 22 yards get a warning and a short term ban for his behaviour? Because from an outsiders point of view he stepped over the mark because he is a representative of the forum and not just another poster.

I found Dervaish to have strong views on many subjects and had a colourful SOH but the forum needs individuals like him to make the forum interesting beyond 'I have gone to the shops for the first time'. The longer users are on the forum the more they need the noise. If the owners don't like the noise then don't have an off topic subject or if the Mods don't like the noise then quit modding. Its not the Mod's forum.

I'm not defending 22_yards at all, he was also a plonk in that handbags-at-dawn match.

Look, who is talking about being up of himself!

With this public fight yesterday with 22_yards, I was sure it was coming... I have a great respect for the majority of the mods, but someone has to come down a bit...

I agreed with your summary of yesterday.

Whether we liked Dervaish or not should be irrelevant to whether he gets banned.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. So theoretically a poll / online petition could be initiated to request a certain mod be warned / temp. banned/stripped of mod rights.

.
100% agree. If he was banned for that thread yesterday, I'm shocked....I wrote twice on that thread yesterday that a Mod shouldn't behave publically in such a way (whilst on duty) but got a "we're only human" reply from another mod.

The tone was set by Dervaish, but the flames were fanned by 22 yards without doubt. Thats fine, I guess, but not if somebody gets banned having been pushed towards the cliff by a Mod
