That movie, with Joan Collins? From 1979? " The What"?

| | | Re: Is the EF community similar to the community on that movie THE BEACH? | Quote: | | | | | For eight months I have been following this forum, and this is what I have seen....
- If you need information about relocating to Switzerland search related threads - it may take time but you will get the info you need from first hand experience. When I say time for key info, I mean up to 5 hrs plus depending on what amount of reinforcement you need for certain subjects.
- Don't ask if your salary offer is good enough, take the time to dig around in threads for a sense of this...otherwise some members will slate you very quickly (depending on which day and how you ask the question). | | | | | I agree on that part. Newbies are sometimes treated a bit too harsh for not knowing how the forum works. We were all new once and I remember it very well since I was new and had few FAQs deleted and informed to use Advance Search. I just didn't know how to use advance search since I was not familiar vBulletin Forum.
There is indeed a lot of the same questions asked again and again and again, so I can't blame the mods either for deleting them. But maybe there could be some middle way as a solution? | Quote: | | | | | - If you have a real problem, you will get genuine help from some good people but don't take advantage with another problem. | | | | | I'm not sure what you mean about take advantage...? When I had some problems when I was just arrived here, I got some really good help and support from other EFers that I had never meet. When I put the helpful spirit on the scale against few threads removed, I have to say the forum is still in a big + from my point of view. I am still amazed how many people here are decent and helpful. | Quote: | | | | | - Some Senior + members do jump on Newbee's from time to time to show the pecking order of the forum, and they are more likely to be direct and rude in this instance.... | | | | | This has happened, no need to deny it. Personally I don't like it either. | Quote: | | | | | - There are a couple of amazing philanthropic moderators here who have the community in mind....on the other hand some should not have been given this responsibility because they bend to peer pressure or let it go to their heads and the consequences when they are in residence are obviously negative, and /or the forum is neglected and can get out of hand. | | | | | Yeah, I don't know. I have disagreed with them loads of times, but over all I think they usually have their point. There was a time point when I had enough (and flounced), but I found out that if you explain your point with some manners, they are ready to listen to you. If one start to piss on another person (mod or no mod), one can't really expect to get positive reaction. | Quote: | | | | | - There are what the regulars call Trolls and they can be really funny. They sign on as a new members and make more entertaining threads which are simulated real life. Lots and lots of people jump on the bandwagon and enjoy it, making it a very popular thread.... then the OP in question gets worse and worse marks like at high school, then banned and called dramatic by a bunch of included regular members. And then sometimes discussed in a psychological way by the EF incrowd in a seperate thread of their own. | | | | | Ehm, yeah. There have been some persons around and not equally funny. Some start off funny, but keep telling the same joke over and over. Personally I don't find the same joke funny the second time, let alone the 10th time | Quote: | | | | | - Two or Three members here say some dreadful things to new people now and again just because they feel that side out.... if you are a Newbee don't expect support as aspiring members and (certain) moderators protect the hierarchy because they have been out to drinks with them before. | | | | | Thinking about all the mods I have went out for drinks with... humm...
Well there is one I had drinks with many times, but that was before he became a mod. Sadly I haven't seen him much after he became a mod so I can't bribe him with beers anymore I have had drinks with one other, and that's it. Would be more fun to get more mods drunk and get all the dirty details from them, wouldn't it? | | The following 3 users would like to thank Begga for this useful post: | |

I also have an astute observation regarding the internet.
When you post 3 posts in a row without any responses in between, you look like a bit of an attention whore. | | | | | Sound advice from one who knows, eh?

| | | Re: Is the EF community similar to the community on that movie THE BEACH? | Quote: | | | | | I lost interest in the 1st post part way through, but I thank you for it... I now have a something that I can print and put under a wobbly bookcase, rather than using a good book.
Have you gone yet, if you have ah well but twas a big let down on the flounce front, if you are still here and your parents have taken the parental lock off the computer, do you react the same way when the milk monitor tells you to sit down | | | | | My point is that just the same as any community virual or otherwise, the more senior members idealy should have more social responsibility towards the group. Many here do... I'm taking about the ones that don't.
No...I am not a sociologist but I can't help noticing members thanking others when it comes to reinforcing a "go back to kindergarten message"... whilst at the very same time the individuals who agree with what I am trying to say prefer to send a private PM. I rest my case.

Its a forum. What did you expect ?
You will find people of all kinds, shapes and sizes. Just like in real life.
There will be the ones who are genuinely helpful.
There will be the ones who are just complete morons and resort to trolling.
And of course there will be people having a bad day just venting it out here.
There is no advertisement for EF which says...
"Come to us, we will solve all your problems".
This is just another online forum among countless others.
We just tend to have a smaller focus region and hence socialize a bit more.
So chill & relax.
Enjoy the sunshine.
The forum can be a lot of fun sometimes....
You'll see.

I don't see why we feel we have to keep defending ourselves and EF
With so many flouncing threads I haven't got the energy to defend or even agree with points posters make. I'm not saying it's perfect here and I agree with some of the comments people are making but really WTF?? Do people really think they are so special that their flounce will make more of a difference than the flouncers before????
If you like it here stay, if you don't then leave. Simples.

Amberleigh....I read your original post last night and my first reaction was......so what?
So now you have the stage......what do you want people to do about it? Or was it just a little footstamping tantrum?

| | | | | What's wrong with a footstamping tantrum? I like it, she's right about some things, who cares. There is some pettiness on here, a lot, actually. But, that's human nature, we're bitches. Oops, might get groaned for "using a four letter word". |

Do it in real life and see what it achieves...or how it effects other peoples perceptions of you.

Or is that your given name?
She's (or he, who knows, really) the same right to stamp and rant and rave on here as you do about the fact that the "real world" wouldn't take it, or the rest of the forum does about the fact that "she's got it wrong". That's the point, this is a great place to air our opinions, it's fabulous, it's a beautiful mode of communication. Of course it wouldn't work out there in the sun, who cares?
Also, it's *affects, if you're going to be a coot about everything I do, because it's getting agitating.
