| | | New EF jobs section
Has anyone else noticed this link at the top of the page?
That crept in quietly, didn't it?
Nice feature, though. | | The following 14 users would like to thank Dougal's Breakfast for this useful post: | Crumbs, Deep Purple, ElggDK, flow23, grumpygrapefruit, jbrady, Longbyt, Mrs. Doolittle, Oldhand, Richdog, Sada, Texaner, TheWolverine, Upthehatters2008 |

Interesting that it's in the ToyTown style. A trial run for a makeover, perhaps?

Apart from the obvious glitch Navel fluff weaver reqd. having old posts in an advert format is going to lead to problems.
For instance, this one, New Vacancy in Customer services, Zurich, shows up as 'Updated Today' just because somebody posted to the thread.
Employers could soon get fed up with people applying for out of date positions. I guess that there is a certain responsibility on the original posters to advise mods. when a vacancy is filled so that a thread can be closed.
Alternatively, all new threads could include a closing date or be automatically closed after a specific time.
Back to the drawing board I think.

Weather or not it's something the Admin can easily do (or wants to bother with) is another question. Remember, this is vBulletin 3.8.x and 4.x* is already out there (*don't ask, just re-read previous sentence).

As mentioned earlier, the new section is quick to add new jobs, but doesn't seem so able to tell when one has been closed.

| | | Re: New EF jobs section | Quote: | | | | | Disagree. Possibly the beginning of the end . | | | | | Or put it this way:
1. Jobsites are sites that make money in some cases.
2. Jobsites succeed if people pay to put jobs on them.
3. You dont want to spend money getting the job adverts but you do want the revenue of a job site.
4. Take people that are writing job advertisements for free on a community bulletin board, take this data and reformat it so that it looks like a nice custom jobs site.
I assume if we are taking topics and making subheadings then there would be no logical reason here to just pick jobs. We should also have a tag for politics, relationships and shopping, because they are just as valid (although would have less revenue generating possibility).
and its a rubbish implementation: one of the jobs near the top is this one: IT Systems engineer function, Zurich it was asking for someone in 2008.

I think these are the most relevant bits of the whole experiment: | Quote: | | | | | | | | | ... which leads to... | Quote: | | | | Job advert submission
Established members of the EF community may post job ads by posting in the usual manner to the jobs offered forum.
For everyone else, please send your job posting request via email to: alexander.diedrich@thelocal.de | | | | | In other words, if you cough up cash, you get top listing, and don't have to worry about being a member of the EF community.
Whether that's a good thing (as it will make money to keep the forum going) or a bad thing (as it undermines the spirit of the English Forum community, not to mention breaking the rules!), isn't for me to say.
But it's an interesting development, all the same. | | The following 2 users would like to thank Dougal's Breakfast for this useful post: | |

Not sure if thats a new feature, but its does need some tweaking.
Im sure that after some time and improvements that will be a useful tool!
