Westie is looking for a new home

I did not want to put this thread as an advert, because it is more of a family matter for us. We have a beautiful westie and we are looking for lovely people who could give him more attention and care then we do. I have just given birth to my son and even if our dog is loving him, he just became too much for us. We feel that we cannot give him as much attention as we used to. His name is Rufty and he is 2,5 years old. He is very lively and friendly. If there is anyone interested, please PM me. Rufty has a passport and his jabs are up to date.

Just to add - this is a free re-homing.

Re: Westie is looking for a new home

Lovely looking dog. TBH, I would try in the other area because I think (can't be sure obviously) that more people look at it.
Good luck in finding him a new family

Rufty is so cute, are you really sure you are going to be able to give him up? I understand having a new baby is extremely time consuming (it's sounds like it is your first) and of course it does make for less time to spend with your dog. But surely there must be some way that you can vary your routine to make some time for your dog. Your baby is not going to stay a baby forever, and I am sure your dog would be happy to come along with you when you take the baby out in the stroller. I also think it is good for children to grow up with a pet. Dogs are pretty smart. When I had an accident in the park dog walking (chased by a dog off a leash) I was on crutches and could not walk my 3 dogs for weeks. Of course they missed walking, but they understood.

My advice is to put Rufty in a kennel or find a friend who can take him for a week or so, even if it is just to give you a break. If you really don't miss him, then he is probably better off with another family. It is not easy on a dog to be re-homed. They don't understand why they have to give up the only family they have known.

There is a yahoo group for dog owners in Switzerland - you could try to post there as well. Just send the moderator a note and I think she can post for you.

Hi there,

it has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make, but we have to do this. It is breaking my heart because I had him since he was three months old and he is a part of family. I just dont think Rufty is happy, because we dont play with him anymore, not as much as we used to. Also, Rufty is getting a bit obsessed about our baby Oliver. Its getting to the point that my husband cannot approach our son without Rufty protecting. We are also looking at going back to UK and I will be working full time in the next 6 months. I really dont to leave him at home for the whole day. He is a very playful dog and needs a lot of attention so it would be nice if there would be nice dogs loving people willing to take him and give him the treatment he deserves.

So sorry to hear you have to give him away. Have you asked your vet? He may have someone who's just lost their dog and he would be the best judge of who would be a good mum/dad for your cutie.
This user would like to thank Kittster for this useful post:

Re: [Dog available] Westie is looking for new home

I could help you to baby-sit your dog for 2 weeks or even longer to see whether you can really give him up or not. I really really love dogs. However, I can not have my own for this moment because of lots of different reasons.

How is the westie doing now? Has he found a good new home or the owner has changed mind? Any news... ...

Re: [Dog available] Westie is looking for new home

I am wondering if you have found a home for your westi? If not, I would be very interested to adopt him/her into our house. We have a very big garden in our house and is ready to adopt a dog. Please let me know how does a westi like? How are their characteristic?
