| | | FB friend with your boss !!
Last week my boss sent me a request for friendship on FB which I just ignored at first and then later deleted it.
He is not my friend IRL, so I don't see any reason to be FB friend with him as well.
However, this weekend another two friend request from him find its way to my FB inbox so I guess he is taking it more serious than me.
What to do?
Keep ignoring him?
Telling him that I by principal can't be his FB friend?
Accepting just for the sake of peace even though it is against my principal?
Are your FB friend with your boss?

Simple solution. Add your boss as a friend on Facebook, then use your privacy settings to prevent him from seeing anything you don't want him to see.

When ignoring his friend request you can say you don;t know him and then he will not be able to send you more invitations. You can also say you do not have a FB account (if he asks) unless your picture is there...my FB account does not have my name on it so it is pretty much impossible to find me phewwwwwwwww!

If you "block" him, he won't be able to see you have an account, even if you have friends in common.

Just talk to him and tell him "thanks but no thanks."
I keep my FB to my real friends.
Work contacts can connect on LinkedIn or Xing.

If you think he would take "no, thanks" badly and affect your work situation, accept it and then abandon that account. Start another one with a slightly different name, tell all your real friends about it and block him from this new one.

Are your FB friend with your boss? | | | | | There's an easy solution. Set a 'limited profile' to put work people, and 'acquaintances' (who you may be friendly with but don't want seeing your intimate life details or photos) on. That way you don't have to deal with the social phobias of "omg you didn't accept my fb request", and yet they can't really see anything. People on my limited profile can only see my basic info and main profile pics (my wall, main photo collections and personal details are restricted)... if they're on that list then I don't want them seeing anything too personal as I sometimes post stuff about work etc, so its perfect for colleagues.

Catch 22 isn't it? are you on good "terms " with your boss, i mean do only speak shoptalk at work or private also?
Otherwise tell him its a conflict of interest, you don't wan't your superior on facebook, then again he will think your hiding something from him what will not be good for your professional relation ship..this is where the "22" comes in place..
I have no facebook, no job thus no boss = no problem well at least not with facebook that is.

By and large, I'm with Stan regarding FB...
Regarding the "boss" question, i'd do as others have suggested -, accept him as a friend, create a new account (but NOT as anything close that might allow subsequent recognition) and "migrate" your friends and family.

Yeah.....Stan knows what i mean. | | | | | Yet he wants to be-friend you.. how lonley is this person?
Part of me starts thinking he purely wants to befriend staff to see what they are up to, like facebooking during working hour etc.. paranoid?
That or he is coming on to you |

I would accept his request on a limited profile basis this way it keeps him happy and then remove him after a couple of days and block him so that he can't ever ask you again..yes, I know its not the most straightforward way of doing it...but

Facebook is notorious for resetting your privacy settings just about every time they update the site.

Don't think you really have a choice..
Diplomacy obliges you to accept.
Accept his request with a smile and then set your privacy settings.
