good Indian restaurant in central London?

hi there

We're gonna be in London in a couple of week's time. Can anybody recommend a good Indian restaurant in central London? I know there's a bunch around Brick Lane, but can anyone recommend a specific one that they know is good?

thanks in advance...

Brick lane you have massive choice, the area looks a bit rough though! If you want somewhere smart, try the Red Fort in Soho, I think it's on Dean Street, if not one of the next streets either way or the oldest in London

If you are on a IT-contractors budget, then I would recommend the Cinnamon Club

Re: good Indian restaurant in central London?

From what i hear, Brick Lane is largely awful and a couple of Sikh guys I know in London (curiously, you know them too Sam) avoid it completely.

I suggest you contact my sources!

Note: this is bordering on a private message between me and bubbles, but I thought i'd open up the debate as to whether or not Brick Lane is any good or not. I know if you want a massive pile of cheap curry and 30 pints of lager it's ideal though.

Its great : as well as your curry, you can get...500 conterfeit fags, a stolen bike, some cool teeshirts and dirty angle grinder, and a military parka. The interesting aspect of which is that they will have no possible use in switzerland...

Or you are in N1 area then the Parveen off Upper St in Islington is very good too, and its a great lively area for a night out...

Re: good Indian restaurant in central London?

Thanks guys. We'll probably end up going to Veeraswammy, or maybe just play it by ear.

If we involve Sikh mates then it always seems that the place is owned by the cousin of somebody's brother in law, and the owner will turn up with a tray of whiskies...

very close of Trafalgar Square if you walk uphill past st.martins in the field church you come across a curry place
called St.Martins Spice (92-93 St.Martins LaneLondon WC2N 4 ER)
it was a tad on the pricey side but the food and service was really 1st class and well worth every ££ spent

Re: good Indian restaurant in central London?

Drummond Street, behind Euston station is also well known for many curry restaurants....I will consult my Mastercard archive using my heuristic search tool (which means taking the lid off the biscuit tin of receipts), and try and find where I had that excellent curry..

Trust me! Go to the Lahore Kebab House.. It's on Umberston Street which is just off Commercial Road in Whitechapel.. It's not grand surroundings, but it's the best indian food in london - and it won't blow your weekend's spending money in one sitting. Take the mixed starter for certain ;-)

I chatted to Jeevan, and we'll go to the Punjab in Covent Garden. It comes highly recommended

Now, all I need is a pub to have a few pints in first...
