Where best to go to top up the German + have a nice holiday ?

Hi EFrs,

So its the 3rd week back at work and already, I am planning my holidays!

It looks like I have 10 days left and am thinking of going somewhere in Germany where I can take a intensive 1week language course to give my German an extra boost.

Since I have my one year appraisal at the beginning of this September (by which point I am supposed to be near fluent in German... er...) I am thinking it would be wise to use this extra boost in August - i.e before the meeting...

The question is which is the best place go where:
-no one can switch to English once they spot my bad German accent?
-I can enroll myself into an intensive language school for 1 week?
-it is actually nice + worth visiting, so that my boyfriend who is not learning German can go explore and have some fun!

All suggestions welcome and appreciated

Angela

Not sure about a 1 week intensive but I did a 2 week super intensive course at Munich Goethe Institute and it's a great city to visit. The super intensive courses have 2x 90 minute classes in the morning with one teacher and 2x 90 minute classes in the afternoon with another but you stick with the two teachers throughout. Both give homework so you really do get the opportunity to learn a lot.

I will second that idea, Munich is a great city to explore alone.

I would do 1 week in May and maybe 1 week in July. You need time to practise German, and learn it, not just repeat it. Doing 2 weeks in one lot might be overwhelming.

Get a German boy friend?

thanks Guys!

Munich it is then and I will certainly go earlier in order to get the German learning into my fuzzy brain.
