Is it cold or is it cold?

Bit of a milestone, this is the coldest I've ever experienced.

Thank you The Local Castro for this informative weather update. I wouldn't have noticed the cold front otherwise.

It is cold here too. We have 3 degrees now and it was 1 when we woke up! Winter arrived this week.

Re: Is it cold or is it cold?

Oooooh, sunshine to go with the cold! I wish I'd been less lazy yesterday and got some laundry done instead of being "stuck" inside doing it on such a beautiful day!!

Reminds me of living on the outskirts of Chicago, always the coldest days were very bright n sunshiny with snow on the ground.

It's freezing!!! But at least the sun shines today. A friend is visiting me for the weekend as part of a trip to Europe - she comes from California, but she is originally Canadian, so I told her...CANADIAN CLOTHES!

Re: Is it cold or is it cold?

It must be cold - I normally just wear a t-shirt in the house, and when I go out walking the dog, just put a jacket on over it. I'm almost at the point where I have to dig through the wardrobes to see if I possess such a thing as a jumper; and I'm having to wear gloves, too.

It's a winter wonderland, and yes crisp and cold. I'll have that sort of cold any day, 15C sunny, dry and crisp, is a million times better than -2 grey and damp.

Local record at La Brévince, little Siberia quite near to us, is -41.8 in 1987.

Come, come Odile. Your thermometer must be suffering from heat-stroke or something. . Either that or it is much warmer up your end of the country than it is around here. '15C sunny, dry and crisp' indeed?

Re: Is it cold or is it cold?

Driving down into Lausanne today there was a fog over the lake and you couldn't see France on the other side. All I could see was blue water extending into the distance. For a moment I imagined I was driving down towards Bronte Beach.

Then I looked at the temp gauge at it said -12. Quite a shock for a Sydney girl.

A bit like smoke on the water, then.

That tends to happen when it gets below 0 degrees C.

*ducking*

Seriously though... it is uncomfortably cold. Even my dogs are like, "wtf!"

You must be thinking Imperial, indeed 5mpg would be pretty tragic but my read out is 5.5l / 100km, which in stop/start traffic is very good

My car can achieve 4.0l / 100km (60mpg) which puts it up there with the Prius and walking.

Re: Is it cold or is it cold?

4.0/100? Pfft. I recently read somewhere that cycling at 18mph on the flat is the equivalent of 160mpg.

Caveat: the list of caveats and assumptions are huge.

Bah, all you Eurotrash green folks are pathetic! Anything under 15l/ 100km is considered a hybrid in my book.

Re: Is it cold or is it cold?

A little wind and humidity just takes things to another level. The wind started during the night, this morning it was almost unbearable.

I remember growing up in Siberia we never worried about temperatures that were lower than -30, since that tended to be a dry and static cold. The danger zone is when you're in the 0 to -20 zone with wind chill.
