haha no as in the graphics are not smooth and the game stalls

i have no issues playing other games, crysis, stalker, MW etc at max settings but COD just sucks, i have patch #4 also but no real difference.

oh well
troubleshooting step one: Does it run smoothly without freezes on lower settings?

What kinda frame rates are you getting on high settings vs. low settings?

A friend brought this to my attention today, I thought my fellow WoW players here would enjoy this as well.

very slightly better but hardly.. fps on max settings, AA x4 average for the first gameplay section is 45fps acc to fraps

everything in minimum and AA off is 50 fps

2 x 5770 1gb in crossfire e6600 @ 3.2ghz 4gb ram

its a bit strange as i can easily run stalker, fallout etc at 70fps without any issues at all.
ah well no real loss as i find black ops fairly boring

Apparently this is a fairly common issue with PCer. It's claimed that it's a OS software organizational issue. Problems have been blamed on software working in the background. Solution is to close all unnesessary applications (task manager-kill all those auto update programs etc.) and to do a registry clean up.
The solution doesn't sound too valid to me, more of a cop-out, but worth a try.
I will probabaly start up Black Ops in a couple weeks, so I'll see how it runs on my machine (less GPU power but faster chip and more RAM) for comparison.
G'luck

Re: Any Computer gamers here?

For those who play online games - MMOs / PvP or combination of the two - there is a new game due out soon (you've possibly already heard already) called Rift: Planes of Telara.

It's looking pretty good AND they're due to start another round of Beta this week (starting tomorrow actually) and the beta keys seem fairly easy to get as they're building up toward doing stress tests and such and want more players involved.

Anyhow, here's a taste:

Looks pretty, but you think it'll ever displace the monster that is WoW? That then got me to thinking what WoW would be like with a total state-of-the-art graphical update. Even though I started playing again (again), the graphics on WoW are incredibly outdated, compared with things like Rift and Lotro (even that is now looking a little dated).

I'm not sure, WoW has a pretty good thing going for it, particularly for new players starting out, it is VERY easy to get into. It also has many different options for game-play style, I can log in to kill an extra 30min if I want or I can find a raid, do serial PuGs, or PvP if I want and come up for air 3 (or more) hours later.

Rift is too new (not even out yet) to know if it will be quite that easy and "player friendly" for casual and new players while still remaining interesting for hard core types - which WoW hasn't perfected either but has come closer than any other game I can think of.

One thing I know folks are going to dislike about Rift is that they do not allow custom UI mods - you have to use base UI. Some of my friends are seriously into customizing their UIs and the use of mods to the point of excluding others for not using them... Personally I am happy that Rift is going that route (mainly because I hate fiddling with updating those extra things every.single.patch) but those particular friends probably will be a lot less enthusiastic.

I have played on hubby's beta for Rift for about an hour last round and found it to be pretty cool... but then I've been playing RPGs for a while now and neither need nor want to be spoon fed everything either.

I'm looking forward to being able to play WITH him this round as we've both got beta keys this time (playing EU servers, you can play NA if you prefer). Hopefully this time we'll have a better chance of getting an idea of how it is as we get some more levels and grouping so that we can see how likely we are to really like it.

Meanwhile, WoW still does a passable job at giving me something to do with spare time.

Out of interest, do you play on NA or EU realms? Can't remember if it was you or Angela who plays on US.

I play on NA (US) realms, partly since I started playing before moving here but also as it is a relatively fun and inexpensive way to keep in touch with some family members who also play.

Angela gave me her Wrath discs so that I could sign up for trial on EU realms (different clients) but every time I started seriously thinking about it something would come up to pull me back to the US realms, whether it be that my hubby would start playing again or my brother and his wife would get me interested in something again... conspiring against me to keep me from playing in a good time zone I think.

Hubby and I are involved with Beta for Rift on EU realms / servers though.

Re: Any Computer gamers here?

Quick "prod" regarding Rift...

Hubby and I played for 5th round of Beta last week and... o m goodness, pretty awesome game!

6th round of Beta starts in a few days, I have seen some folks on their forum offering beta keys out (some folks got 25-invite VIP keys) if anyone is interested.

Re: Any Computer gamers here?

Just saw the minimum requirements for Crysis 2

Looks like you'll need at least a Core 2 Duo or Athlon 64 X2 2Ghz, 8800 GT GPU, 2 gigs RAM and 9 gigs HDD space.

It's gonna be a monster, hopefully the game play doesn't dissapoint.

Re: Any Computer gamers here?

I just started playing again. (I havent played since well before WOTLK) I am quite amazed how "nerfed" the game has become. It used to be so difficult to level up but in the last two weeks of casually playing I am up to a lvl 57. Its a bit sad that it has changed so much, but on the other much better because now I really want to play other races and classes and know i can get up quite quick. I am playing a paladin but am probably going to try a hunter and a warlock as well.

As for servers, I always played on a US server even when i played from here. It was always really slow and I got bumped off. It was a pain in the but to do dungeons and so forth. On the EU realm, there are plenty of English servers and I might try the German server as well.

Is there anyone who would like to join up and play, we really could form up an EF guild if we have enough peeps. There are really all kinds of cool possibilities

I have never played on RP, whats the object of that? I have played only Normal PVE servers but may try either RP or PVP

My server (the name escapes me) has a pretty low population. I don't know whether that's a really good thing or not. It really is great for gathering and for questing. (no competition) but it is a bit weird to occasionally go into an Ironforge AH and be the only one there!

Well, its a RP server but basicaly nobody RP lol. I am member in a guild that people usualy RP but i am mostly PVE and social.
Servers with low population sucks. Long time waiting for a random dungeon and way more time for Raids. But i can say that RP servers are much like a PVE or Normal server.
As tank i wait around 5 min to find a group and as DPS its around 20-30min.

Actually realm size has no bearing on wait times for dungeon finder because its cross server.

What level guild do you guys have?

Re: Any Computer gamers here?

WoW certainly is a funny beast. I started playing from launch, then switched to Lotro, but every time a new expansion has come out, I've found myself reinstalling it and reactivating my account. I then play it exahaustively day in day out, but it only takes a week away from it, such as our last trip to the UK, to become indifferent once again. I've hardly touched it since and have gone back to Black Ops and my PS3. I still delve in for a half hour or so, but nothing like before.
I keep meaning to get back into Lotro, a beautiful, well thought out game of which I still have my lifetime subscription.
