Well most people's complain is that the old one might did not get the promised updates and stuff. They just jumped to the new one. So wait for new release. IMHO: L4D is going EOL.

Ok, old but resurrected thread
*raises hand while right clicking to detonate a sticky bomb with the mouse hand*
Long time gamer here. Really as long as there have been PC games dating back to the early DOS days (and before but those fall out of the genre).
So let's see, there are about 50 games on my shelf dating back almost 20 years but in this century the biggies were/are:
Tribes 2, god I miss that game. Best team play ever.
Starcraft
Warcraft 3
WoW, played it for a few years. Done with the same ol' same ol'.
AoE3
MoHAA
FEAR
HL2
BFME2
and currently playing:
TF2 daily on the GTFO servers.
Company of Heroes. . . love those destructible environments.
and anxiously awaiting:
Starcraft 2!

I'm a big-a$$ gamer.
HashBrown: digitec is good, I built a 5k chf system for gaming and win2k8 Hyper-V work from them. Sate of the art. A LOT cheaper than some alienware or other pre-built stuff. Rock on!

I'm also a big fan of L4D, but try to get it cheap as some find it too short for single player. It's awesome in multiplayer on-line.
I have to try the other ones...

Digitec is very hard to beat. I'm building my gaming system now too. All the components are either digitec or pc-high. Fairly extensive price comparison and those do the best.
Still might wait another month or two to find the vid card i want | Quote: | | | | | About to build a new system. Very high-end. Still deciding on components and where other then digitec to do my shopping. | | | | | |

There is a Play Tower here in Basel where my husband usually shops, they happily order for us any game that comes in an English version if we want it and they don't already have it.
Also, Thalia books has a game department, I know they order books and things if they don't have it in stock, perhaps they'd do the same for games or movies, it may be worth a try.
Finally, I'll echo Shinigami regarding Steam. Hubby has a serious gaming habit and he was quite enthused about how many games he's found on Steam as well as getting access via Steam to some betas (he did Aion beta through Steam) and other similar things. In fact, we're both playing with the demo for Torchlight now which we gained access to through Steam.
The one thing I would caution about regarding Steam though is that it is very tough if you are trying to control game buying. At least having to go to the store and come home with packaging you actually SEE how many games you're getting... not so with Steam.
And, by the way... Torchlight seems like it's going to be lots of fun! It has a lot of the fun elements of Diablo and Fate and is slated to become an MMO at some point in the future but for now (and at release) is a single player game.
Aion also is fun enough to pull me away from WoW, at least for the first 25+ levels, after which time there is more PvP interaction which I've not yet decided how much I like. |

btw, one point to remember about Steam, is that if you've got friends in the US, ask them to buy the game for you and "gift it" to your account. Then pay them back by Paypal or something...
Case in hand recently was a pre-order I made for L4D2 with some online friends. A guy in the US bought the 4 player pack and I paypal'd him about 35chf for my copy which he gifted to me.
Had I bought this on my own, it would have been 45's as my Steam is configured for a European address!

Bethesda really knows what they're doing
I didn't get a lot done when Fallout 3 and Farcry 2 came out at like the same time.

Gamer here too. I didn't really like Oblivion, it was quite unbalanced depending on what character you chose. And very repetitive in a way. Your monsters and enemies would adapt to your character level which actually penalised excessive exploring because it made the main story much, much harder.
Before that: C&C series (currently Red Alert 3 online), Quake 3 (clan-gaming), Age of Empires (up to #II competition, others later were ok) Dark Age of Camelot (MMORPG, Daoc) Total War Series (Medieval II, fantastic!)
and much more |

How are you liking it? I find it quite challenging ie I die a LOT more than I ever did in WOW. It is beautiful to look at though and is extremely polished gameplay-wise.
