Hi,
Did you finally get one?
I am keen on a Samsung too so your reviews would help before I take the plunge
Thanks

We have a Roomba not sure what model maybe the 700?? I couldn't live without it now!!! As mentioned above set it off on way out of door and come back to sparkly floors!! Ours lightly bumps into things. As to what it will pick up I have just retrieved a bouncy ball from ours! Great on carpets better than our old hoover. Ours is called Sniffy
Ours is nicknamed Roombria as her lazy hair-shedding elder sister is our dog named Umbria.
I like the 'do the edges' program 'coz that's where a lot of fur balls gather for their musty conferences. It also has a round-n-round in concentric circles' program for 1m sq in case you spill something. But ours is an old Aldi model got for only CH200 or thereabouts.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

Question is though, how much will they do in a day? I have an apartment that's around 83m2... will it go and clean everywhere where there is an open door, return when its' battery is low, and then go out and clean again over a period of 9 hours while I'm at work?

Hmmm...good question. Ours does go back to the dock when the battery is low. But I don't think it would then be smart enough to go back out and start in the next room when finished. It can be programmed. We have the roomba 770 (I think). Mine will run for a couple of hours on 1 battery, but going logically between rooms isn't possible. Is it on the newer models (or the samsung?)

You do have to roomba-rize (?) your room a bit - I usually put my chairs up on my kitchen table, make sure there aren't any cables in the way. I use mine the most to clean the kitchen area (almost every day) and in the bedrooms which I otherwise am too lazy to carry the vacuum up and do.

I got mine last year (for mother's day!) and the love for it hasn't worn off yet They aren't perfect, but what is...

BTW - anyone have a scooba or whatever they are called - the ones that "mop" the floor?

With the irobot ones you should be able to create zones, I believe up to 3. It'll clean them sequentially and then go back home, but I haven't seen a model that will do more than one cycle per day.

But, mine runs between 3-4 hours on a cycle, and covers about 90 of my 120 m^2 every day.

it's a hybrid that I built.

Not the best comparison I suppose, but anything with the "lighthouses" will do the zone deal.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

I have the Roomba 780. I put it on a timer to do the downstairs (around 75m2) once a day - it passed under and through my dining chair legs but you need to put everything off the floor, a challenge with kids and today there was a paper plane picked up under Roomba. It sometimes get stuck on things like cables and it almost never finds its way back to the charging station. We just pop it back on when we get home.

I use it in on our bedroom floors once a week but in the kitchen and entry area every second day or when it needs it. I wouldn't let it roam around your whole flat every day, simply close the doors where you don't want it to clean that day when you are on one level. The virtual walls never worked for me, either it moved them or the kids did. It also detects drops and won't fall down stairs - tried and tested from our landing and stairs to the basement when we have accidentally left the door open.

You do need to clean the sensors and brushes at least every week and it doesn't replace proper a weekly clean, but still money well spent.

You can even program them, but I use it so variably and lots of 'spot' cleans (where it cleans around spot that you select) that programming it wouldn't be useful.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

We have a Roomba and I have to say I was quite skeptical at first. We had a rug that I would spend seriously 30 minutes every week vaccuming and it still wasn't clean!!! 2 weeks after we started using Roomba the rug looked great!!! Now we have mostly hardwood floors, but a few rugs here and there. What he doesn't do great with are small lightweight rugs. He tends to get tripped up on them because they fold up when he goes over them. Also we have chairs with a small metal bar on the ground and he gets stuck on them too. We still love him though and he really helps keep the dust down and for quick cleanups during the week. Now we have a toddler and she LOVES him. Can even say his name So we have a housepet, which she loves to turn on and he doesn't make a mess, but cleans it up!

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

I have my itchy trigger finger over the button for a Roomba 650 from Media Markt for 338chf http://shop.mediamarkt.ch/de/haushal...0/idpdmiap3u8e

Cheapest price I can find in the UK is 450chf, so we are getting a bargain here in CH, and I hear nothing but good thing about them.

I bought a samsung after a lot of research, the reason is it has a logical wsy of cleaning rather than the roomba random method of bumping into something then changing direction.

If you do the research, the Roombas have better user feedback and critical reviews (and test wins) than the Samsungs. They are the market leaders because they have the best devices. The Samsungs have overall noticeably worse feedback.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

OH nearly bought me one a few years ago, but we just couldn't justify paying double or more from a regular vacuum. I have to say there are days I wish we'd just done it. The regular vac is a total pain even though it is small. Have to take out all the various parts, assemble, change heads for different tasks, and unplug-replug 3 times in our small flat just to do the job (cord is shorter for safety reasons or something). Maybe someday...

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

My four year old quite likes doing the vacuuming. He does it in a bit of a random fashion but doesn't usually bump into things.
He can't manage the stairs yet.
After an hour or so, I have to plug him into another bowl of Weetabix.

He's costing us a damn lot more than 400CHF so I'm trying to get my money's worth.
