Oddly enough there is an article in the Daily mail this morning about this very thing. Now I see I am by no means alone.

In fact, reading the letters I see that I have got off lightly.

Do you have a link for that? I hate going to the front page of the DM, would rather go straight to the article.

Re: Am I going mad?

I see the flashes sometimes when about to sleep and there is a loud noise. I'm 99% sure the noises are real in my case, because I also hear them when not sleeping - they can be for example the refridgerator starting, or fluorescent light cracking a few minutes after being turned off. In a previous house I got the flashes a lot because the fridge was too close to the bed (studio flat), and I had a fluorescent light basically above my pillow position. It is quite annoying I have to say.

Re: Am I going mad?

Well, after suggesting to Busby that he was dreaming, I think that I had this happen to me last night.
I woke up suddenly with what sounded like gun shots going off in my head, three or four times, I think the first one woke me.
I was shaken but remembered this thread, which reassured me.
So unless any of you have heard about a shooting in Baden last night, I think my head exploded!

Happens to me occasionally too, but mine is more like a loud grinding metallic sound. Sometimes it happens a few days after drinking spirits excessively, which btw, I don't do very often. At first I thought I was having a brain seizure, but now I am wiser, cheers EF.

I'd just like to say that I'm still convinced that the sounds I experienced, although I have no doubt that they originated in my head, really seemed to stem from a position outside my head - maybe it would be better to say that I heard them with my ears rather than in my head.
But I'm very thankful to hear that I'm not alone...

If not already mad I will be well on the way by the time election day arrives in UK.

100 days to go ............... and counting. (FFS)

Wall-to-wall coverage and hysteria being whipped up by the tv channels and newspapers.

Every mundane statement by the non-entities involved will be disected and repeated ad nauseum.

Time to start tuning into the cartoon channels.

I get it very occasionally as well (maybe once every couple of years). With me it's a door slamming very loudly.

Re: Am I going mad?

I'm not one for the supernatural. However a strange thing like this happened to me. Few years ago, sound asleep, around 5am. Woke up to what i thought was a huge calamity in the room.. Checked the room, the house, the doors, looked outside, nothing - everything calm, dog still asleep in his bed even. Went back to sleep assuming it was just a dream.
Got a call a couple hours later to tell me that my father had died that morning, around 5am.

So hey ho, who knows what goes on.

No alcohol last night, so I can't blame that. From what I have read, there is nothing to worry about.

I'm not following the build up to the election, so can't blame that either.

Have you checked to see if your other half is still in the apartment?

Just unplug the damn TV and throw it out the window. You've been complaining about the content at every perceived opportunity. Sports, news, what's next? don't agree with the weatherman?

what does your post have to do with this thread, anyway?

back to exploding heads, please...

Re: Am I going mad?

Aahhh...another interesting thread read

I get the door bell ringing! Two notes, high pitched. Only once in a while, but always when I`m in a deep sleep, in the middle of the night or early mornings. I hear it loud and clear. Wake O/H to go see who`s at the door this time of the night? Nobody.

Another strange one. My daughter-in-law`s Swiss father died in ZAR while staying with other half of family there. All the family attended his funeral, except one daughter living in CH, unable to travel.
She came home from work that day to find the radio in her apartment playing traditional Swiss music - on a channel she NEVER listens to - on a radio she NEVER uses anyway ( in the spare bedroom), as she plays CD`s, uses PC, or watches TV.
It was the radio channel her old Dad always listened to.
WHO turned it on? Tuned it to that station?

Re: Am I going mad?

That ringing doorbell, smoky - in your head or in your ears??

Whilst we are at it: I woke one morning, it was just after four, looked at the clock on the bedside table, that's how I know, went straight back to sleep thinking 'I never wake at that time'. Then I found myself (dream of sorts) standing on the pavement at a corner on a local main road. Looking down to my left I saw a very strange contraption coming towards me on the road. When it got near I saw it was a coffin on a wheeled trestle. This stopped in front of me. I saw that the lid was made of glass. When I peered in I saw dad lying there, rather rosy and perky actually. He put up his left hand and pushed the lid open, sat up a little and said 'I just thought I'd let you know that I'm happy and well', then he lowered the lid and the contraption went off up the hill. And I woke up again. It was ten past four.
My immediate thought was to nudge my wife and tell her that I thought dad had died, but then I thought 'don't be ridiculous'. And went straight back to sleep.
When the alarm went off for work I got up again wondering if I should wake her and tell her - but didn't.
Anyway I went to work and was absolutely ceratin that dad had died. Around 9oclock the phone went and it was my wife to tell me my brother had phoned from England to say that dad had died in the night in hospital. I didn't firstly know that he was ill and I didn't know he was in hospital.

I'm still at a loss for words.

But one of 16 very odd things/moments I could relate.

Like ..... go into the spare bedroom, delve under the piles of laundry she`s forgotten about (she`d hire me about every 2 months to sort it for her), plug in the radio, tune to the station she never uses, leave the flat with music playing loudly, and go to work.
Return from work and be amazed at the sound of music in flat?
Possible, I guess. One never can know.
Could be a latent pschychiatric explanation behind it all.

She had the comforting feeling that it was her Dad saying goodbye.

Could be, but I didn't mean it that way. I guess that emotionally she was very stressed because of her father's death and on top of that because of not being able to attend the funerals. I don't know, I would be devastated. (and someone's favourite music can make you feel closer to that person, who knows ) I'm just trying not to rush into supra-natural explanations.
But I'd say it's good that she had this comforting feeling of Dad saying goodbye.
