That ringing doorbell, smoky - in your head or in your ears??

Whilst we are at it: I woke one morning, it was just after four, looked at the clock on the bedside table, that's how I know, went straight back to sleep thinking 'I never wake at that time'. Then I found myself (dream of sorts) standing on the pavement at a corner on a local main road. Looking down to my left I saw a very strange contraption coming towards me on the road. When it got near I saw it was a coffin on a wheeled trestle. This stopped in front of me. I saw that the lid was made of glass. When I peered in I saw dad lying there, rather rosy and perky actually. He put up his left hand and pushed the lid open, sat up a little and said 'I just thought I'd let you know that I'm happy and well', then he lowered the lid and the contraption went off up the hill. And I woke up again. It was ten past four.
My immediate thought was to nudge my wife and tell her that I thought dad had died, but then I thought 'don't be ridiculous'. And went straight back to sleep.
When the alarm went off for work I got up again wondering if I should wake her and tell her - but didn't.
Anyway I went to work and was absolutely ceratin that dad had died. Around 9oclock the phone went and it was my wife to tell me my brother had phoned from England to say that dad had died in the night in hospital. I didn't firstly know that he was ill and I didn't know he was in hospital.

I'm still at a loss for words.

But one of 16 very odd things/moments I could relate.
The doorbell ringing was exactly the same as what I hear if someone rings the doorbell. If snoozing (in the day-time and someone rings the doorbell it wakes me up)

As to your incident - I wrote a long rambling experience of my own in reply and then hit the wrong button "accidentally" and wiped my entire fascinating story out! Or was it accidental...........? Hahahaaaa.
You never can really know about things in life.

Like the old Shamans would say "There`s more to this world than what we can see with our eyes". Neh?

When an uncle of mine died, I remember feeling quite depressed the day before. That night I had a very vivid dream that he was in the same room as me and laughing and seemingly very happy. I was wide awake after that and went upstairs only to find that the rug that is usually in the entrance to the lounge was screwed up in a heap by the front door. No logical explanation as to how that got there. It was confirmed next day that he had died sometime during the night.

Was in Zermatt on a weekend break when my mother died. At exactly 13.10 p.m we were at the station there when a guggemusic band started playing. For some inexplicable reason I suddenly started crying uncontrollably and had to go and sit down. I later phoned my sister who confirmed that she had died on the same day at 19.10 p.m. (Australian time - they lived in Australia) which, with a 6 hour time difference, would have been 13.10 p.m. here.

At the funeral of a friend's mother the lights suddenly went out and she said she "just knew" that that was her mother's departing message.

Can't remember now where I read this but it has been said that the dead come to say their last goodbye when they leave their body.

Aahhh...another interesting thread read

I get the door bell ringing! Two notes, high pitched. Only once in a while, but always when I`m in a deep sleep, in the middle of the night or early mornings. I hear it loud and clear. Wake O/H to go see who`s at the door this time of the night? Nobody.

Another strange one. My daughter-in-law`s Swiss father died in ZAR while staying with other half of family there. All the family attended his funeral, except one daughter living in CH, unable to travel.
She came home from work that day to find the radio in her apartment playing traditional Swiss music - on a channel she NEVER listens to - on a radio she NEVER uses anyway ( in the spare bedroom), as she plays CD`s, uses PC, or watches TV.
It was the radio channel her old Dad always listened to.
WHO turned it on? Tuned it to that station?

I got the doorbell thing a lot a few years ago as i napped in the day during my first pregnancy.. but once went to the door expecting nobody as usual and there was a man there in a suit. He said, sorry wrong house, in swiss german and i closed the door.. felt weird after that! was laughing at people suggesting the matrix

However smoky you gave me chills if you really are telling the truth.. We moved to an old house a year ago and we were only here and settled in about a month when we were rushing out for breakfast with family. My husband put my daughter in the car as usual and i locked up. On arriving home and opening the front door our tv was on, and was turned up to its highest volume. We shut it off immediately coz of the noise. The controls were still on the armchair facing away from the tv from the night before. We checked for break ins, all was ok and went to apologize to the neighbours and explained that we were out and maybe the electrics were faulty.. they said they had wondered as it had been blaring for about an hour. Nothing like that has happened since, but its always on my mind..

  • When I was younger, a car drove past our house.

At that moment, I knew our dog had died.

Except we didn't have a dog which was even more weird.

  • Another time a gust of wind caused me to shiver.

At that moment, I knew it was windy. And cold.

  • Once I saw a train leaving a station.

At that moment, I knew my dad was saying goodbye.

He was on the train waving out of the window.

Now I think I know who invented that stone hanging on a chain in gardens, that tells what the weather is like!

If the stone is wet - it`s raining
If the stone is dry - it`s not raining
If the stone is covered with snow - it`s snowing
..and so one ...... very practical.

If you can't see it, it's foggy. Or nighttime.

If our headmistress couldn't see the netball post from her office window because of the fog, we were sent home.
One day someone stole the netball post.

( Sorry)

I was expecting someone to say this can happen because (insert explanation).. You're just leaving it open for them so don't complain

Re: Am I going mad?

I do not believe in such things myself.
Which makes it hard for me to accept that my wife has several times woken in the night and said "x" came to say goodbye on the day and time that a close friend or relative has died.

One time she did this on a Sunday and the wife of our friend rang on Thursday to say he had died. So we assumed he had died later in the week. But when we went to the funeral we found he had died on the Sunday.

For the last couple of weeks or so, I've woken up several times at 4.30, for no apparent reason - no noise or anything.

Every time, it was more or less to the minute.

Nothing significant about the time, either, as far as I know.

..... and a bugger getting back to sleep again, afterwards - if at all ...... especially as I only go to bed at about 1.00 am.

This, and several other posts here about waking up with very vivid images/sounds made me think of the following very rational blog entry (in German). I'm not saying there is no "other dimension", but here is the story of Adrian, and how he dreamed of dancers and loud conversations, sensing it all as intensely as if the people were in his bedroom, and all this startled him... until he realised that it was his Sunrise television subscription, which is programmed to do automatic system updates in the middle of the night, and this process switches the television on - automatically!

Many people have mini strokes, and the brain is starved temporarily of blood. Maybe you should speak to your doctor, and maybe he will prescribe you one Cardio Aspirin per day? Before you get a big stroke.

It`s something to do with getting older.
They say a glass of red wine with dinner, or a whisky before going to sleep cures this problem.
Or else just re-adjust oneself to be awake at night and sleep in the day.

I always tell the truth

Here`s another spooky tale - very true, and weird.

Long ago, in ZAR, we rented an old farmhouse (original farmhouse, big grounds, surrounded by new built houses).
Old style house where one never used the lounge, everyone congregated in the big kitchen.
Long passage down middle leading to bedrooms/bathroom.
Old wooden floor boards throughout.

Every night while we were in the kitchen eating/reading/chatting...... there came very loud thudding running footsteps up the passage, we would look at the doorway waiting ..... footsteps stopped, no-body there.
Funny enough it did not feel scary, just weird, and we`d not think further about it. The thudding was so loud, and then would stop so suddenly.

This happend once when my brother and his wife were visiting.
My brother got melodramatic about it ... standing at the doorway he proceeded to give a speech to whoever/whatever was doing this.......(thespian style for our benefit)

His oration was along the lines of "Hey you! Stop doing this, it is not acceptable! You are dead, and should go where the dead go! Thank you for going away, we hope you find where you need to go, and leave us in peace here!"

Strangely ..... we never heard any more footsteps as long as we lived there (a further 2 years) - all was quiet!

Well thank you Sbrinz for your concern about the state of my health. Let me put your mind at rest - my doctor has everything under control. However this thread has served to show that even a slight scratch on the surface of reality is worthwhile.
