Am I going mad?

Last night, after spending a night with my family in the mountains to celebrate Christmas I returned home tired but happy. I went to bed early at 9.15pm and read for about 15 minutes before turning off the light. I must have dropped off instantly. At what turned out to be 9.45 I was awakened by a tremendous noise; it seemed as though two pans were being banged together over my head three times. In a state of utter shock I turned on the bedside light expecting to see some sort of explanation although my heart was in my mouth and I felt fear. But there was nothing to be seen. I jumped out of bed to see what had happened in my flat - but all was calm. I checked the front door, the hallway outside and the shutters, but there was nothing untoward. Half stupified with shock I slipped back into bed again, now determined not to let myself slip into some sort of panic. It took some time before I could turn the light off and then get back to sleep, but I did and this morning I can only marvel at this amazing moment.

But, and here's the rub, I had a very similar moment in August. In this case it was horns that were loudly blown about three feet above my head. This happened at exactly the time in the night that my younger son had been born 43 years ago.

Explanation? I don't know, but there are three things. My mother died on Christmas day 45 years ago. And, on both occasions I had a chat before getting into bed with my late wife's photo about how we all miss her and how she would certainly love to see how her grandchildren are growing up. It's just that I can't imagine there being ghosts and I can't imagine either my mum nor my late wife wakening me in such a brutal way.

??????????????????????????

Re: Am I going mad?

There are some things that just can't be explained. Accept the experience as a gift and treat it with awe, but certainly not with fear. You're right: it was an amazing moment. You are a special person to have it happen to you.

Re: Am I going mad?

You can be sure that if there was really loud noise of pans banging or horns in your flat at nearly 10pm, you would know it had really happened by your doorbell ringing shortly afterwards... :-)

And why wouldn't they ?
Only the body is temporary, the spirit is eternal. The people we have loved and who have gone before us, do watch over us and continue to love us.

I lost my father last year, I can not describe the amazing things that have happened since he has gone. Just recently, 2 weeks ago, I was utterly desperate for some long lost documents and had encountered upsetting, unexpected difficulties. I dreamed of him scolding me about being disorganized and telling me that I had everything. It was if he was there, sitting at the dinner table as he always did, teaching me and shaping my thoughts. I awoke and went to look for the place I had dreamed and found that he had, once more, kept my precious documents for me. I had found my originals.

Messages, feelings, dreams, true loving care.. I feel that I do not walk alone. And yet I'm in my early forties, I'm not a little girl.

You're not mad, and neither am I.
Just loved

Re: Am I going mad?

If it's your mum's spirit, ask for a sign and put some flour (just a bit on a thin layer) on a place that nobody can reach easily.

If she can *come to watch you*, perhaps she can also do it.

come back to see if it has been moved in any way.

(I did it with my grand-mother who's one of my *guide*)

Sorry Suisse Romand, that's one step too far for me.
Hearing and feeling things in dreams from those I've lost has happened to me ....but actually asking for any kind of manifstation is absolutely out of the question.

Exploding Head Syndrome

Happens to me once a year or so. First time as I was shaken from sleep I was sure someone was banging extremely hard on my front door, jumped out of bed and ran to door, thought I was losing it. Nope, just Exploding Head.

This.

Be thankful for the free hallucinations. If they get worse, see a shrink. Until then, enjoy.

Thanks for that. I feel better now.

It was the sheer brutality of these moments which give rise to such a feeling of exposure to a force which is unexplainable at that moment.

I'd like to add that I am also one of those people who otherwise have had a numerous amount of, let's call them 'unusual occurences', including sights and sounds not applicable to the world as we know it directly. I've written them all down so that they'll be read by my children's children.

As said, I could never imagine my wife or mother putting such fear into me. And I was really tired last night and am also an oldie.

Re: Am I going mad?

This Exploding Head Syndrome has worked it way with me again. The night before last. I think I was deeply asleep - not sure now exactly - lying on my left side when suddenly, behind my back and seemingly coming from the bedside table there was a tremendous noise just like an old clockwork alarm clock with a big bell on top of it going off. It lasted a second or two and got me into a state of utter shock. Needless to say I don't have an alarm clock thesedays. Thanks to my previous two experiences I calmed down quickly but I have to say this: If my brain can do this, can actually project outwards and then back into my ears various noises in such a hefty reality, where does reality actually take place?

This really does beg the question - many years ago I had a wonderful dream in which I heard absolutely beautiful music. This music I always thought of as being The Music of the Spheres, I assumed I had sort of transcended earthly reality (I can't put it better than this to meet the explanation I was then afterwards looking for). Now it seems I have to think differently and simply say that we have no idea of how our minds really work. It seems as though I composed that heavenly music myself all those years ago.

In music I'm a dunce.

Ahh Busby strikes again... it is sweet though, watching people reply to you earnestly and sincerely, despite being largely unaware that you are extracting the michael out of them.

Not so Richdog. I'm not taking the Mickey in any way. This Exploding Head Syndrome (see input above from Mud) can be googled under that title and everything I have written is so.

I have a friend who falls asleep every night to the sound of a choir of angels. She is not religious and does not believe in angels or god but she says that is the only words she has to describe the singing.

Re: Am I going mad?

If you have tinitus you tend to have it all the time, my dad has it and I hear him complaining about it. My friend doesn't and has no hearing problems. She doesn't try to explain it she just accepts it as a nice way to drift off to sleep.
