Re: Circumcision in Switzerland [info ONLY please]

They are from Israel, so it is obviously a religious thing, but it still doesn't get away from the fact it genital mutilation which is forbidden and punishable by law for Female Genital Mutilation and quite rightly so.

Why is it therefore not punishable by law for Male Genital Mutilation, all this bollocks about equality.....

Quite. There's some history with this thread though, and it's always been kept 'clean' of argument, going back to when certain personae non any more grata used to be mods. Seems that this is being maintained, and although I personally wouldn't endorse such an approach now, I'm not sure it's worth fighting over.

How can it be "punishable by law" when it is implicitly mentioned in the Old Testament ?

Why is that people are so selective when it comes to quoting religious texts? There are many, many laws in the bible that we ignore. What's so special about this one?

same with laws/rules, people quote what they want not the stuff that goes against what they do, only what would benefit them

I agree with you for once!

But why should it being a religious thing make any difference?

Around 60% of American males are circumcised and they're not all Jewish.
May be that's why they all want guns? They feel inadequate perhaps?

But back to the religion:

If someone's religious texts said that people should put a banana up their bottom and wear a traffic cone on their head - would these people blindly follow that?

People :Let your kids choose their own religion and when they get to adulthood, if they want parts of their body lopped off then let them decide.

Actually, my elder step-son decided to get circumcised at age 20.

Hardly a painless and easy procedure at that age.

How do you know it is painless for a baby! At least at 20 it is a choice. It is at times required for some children for medical reasons- and it is certainly neither easy nor painless, and not without risks of infection, etc, at any age.

Do you have any idea why he chose to do so at that age unless he had a medical issue?

Oh come on! That's just ridiculous. Don't you know anything?

It was five loaves and two fishes. Makes all the difference.

Unless you're responding to one of the four year old deleted posts I don't think anyone had made such a claim.

I've seen babies at a bris not really bothered by it all, so I assume there is some truth to it being less painful. Like little boys sure don't have the same feeling in their bollocks as grown men do.

There are men who are trying to "regrow" foreskin, it's an interesting debate sometimes in the mothering groups, esp when the ones with the strongest view are in deed women, even more when they argue against it for hours on end but have never seen an intact penis in their lives

Re: Circumcision in Switzerland [info ONLY please]

I work with small children, my experience with children here in Switzerland, is that circumcision is rare and the three main groups that seem to be continuing the tradition are, in my experience Jewish, Muslim or Korean...apart from religious custom, Korea for some reason has an extremely high circumcision rate whilst most other places it's rare these days...

It went out of fashion in Australia probably around the late 1970's...

If you are dedicated to having it done, your doctor will be the best advisor...

Re: Circumcision in Switzerland [info ONLY please]

Reading the idiotic responses on this thread annoyed me so much I had to relogin from a period of flouncing just to add some fact.

If you are going to do circumcision -in my opinion - it should be for a medical reason and not for a religious belief. And for that reason I would hesitate to do it on a child

...but...and anyone of a sensitive disposition should look away...

I had a lot of problems peeing which I thought was the prostate and turned out to be a urethra infection because my foreskin did not retract sufficiently to allow it to be kept clean. So last year at the age of 47 I was circumcised by Dr Egli - a urologist with his office close to Stadelhofen I will post up the address when I can be bothered to google for it. Such infections can also be dangerous to the health of one's sexual partner.

Anesthetics were used, in spite of which it bloody hurt during and after and the bit that gets exposed is of course very sensitive for a while afterwards and you're walking around with a thing that looks like something from a Frankenstein movie - minus the bolts! For these reasons I actually wish my parents had considered doing it when I was younger - and when I already had a potential problem.

Anyway, I'll logout now and let you lot get back to trolling each other.

Cheers,
Nick
