Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

I think.... IKEA has a store in Pratteln (Basel).

I think... that's about it.

Oh, didn't a monkey wearing a jacket appear in one?

Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

A haiku that captures my feelings and experiences at Ikea:

Lost in mattresses;
My only need was meatballs.
Where is the damn lift?

Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

I have a love hate relationship with IKEA.

I lOVE that I have always managed to buy a great Xmas tree from them.
(and in Hong Kong and Singapore they were delivered, installed and all the rubbish taken away!!)

I HATE walking through the whole store just to stock up on candles/napkins/cork mats. You need to get there as they are opening and run through.

I LOVE that I can buy bits to add onto some of the basic things I have bought regardless of where in the world I was living when I bought it. I've added to my sturdy garage shelving, wardrobes and my bookshelves.

I HATE that outside Asia they don't deliver. (In HK I could pay for a shopping cart of stuff and leave it behind to be delivered, those candles can get very heavy !!)

I have mixed feelings about IKEA.

I loved it when I moved here and furnitures shopping constituted part of my relocation package. Will never forget these empty rooms without my BH being here yet. I had to spend time assembling basic furnitures one by one every weekend for almost a month. Blisters on palms and knackered body from bending down and tightening these clever screws. But it was such a feeling of self achievement afterwards when the apartment started shaping up. BTW, I like their 20 meatballs with French fries and bottle of wine after tedious shopping

I hate going back there again to add some more refurbishments. Each year standing in the queues and walking in the crowd. After all or is a cheap stuff and serving expats moving in and out frequently. These cannot replace sought after solid wood antiques for sure.

Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

I love puzzles and ikea provide me giant 3D puzzles games. I don't like to shop there and I would much prefer to buy something else than ikea but that's what our budget can afford. The good part is when you are tired of an item, getting rid of it doesn't hurt too much monetary speaking as it wasn't expensive to start with.

Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

Once you've been to an IKEA you can normally spot the (it has to be said) well concealed shortcuts, and most of the stores I have been in you can head straight to the Marketplace.

Is this for some sort of research btw?

Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

crazy thing, that so many people shop there and have ikea stuff.
went there once as kid with my parents and never forgot it.
went there to get stuff for my first flat as single
went there to get stuff for first apt. with boyfriend,
went there once with boyfreind and swore never to do that again
he hated it and told me that during every minute we were in ikea store-
...so instaed of looking at stuff while walking through the show rooms i had to calm down boyfriend till i got him back to the entrance so he could leave ikea and stop hyperventilating. so go there on my own, to get x-mas trees, rugs and what not all
went there to get stuff for my baby, now go there to get stuff for kids room....
and my child love's to play in the showrooms in those small apt. with me
went there and have had items from ikea from teenage age till now
ikea seems to be a part of my life,
crazy thing
so, mr. ikea had a brillant idea

Re: what emotions does the word ikea provoke

I think it's wonderful. Magical how almost everything is flat packed.

If it weren't for Ikea

- the last few generations would have no clue how to read instructions and assemble something.

- students and bachelors wouldn't be able to afford any furniture worth the name.

- decent meatballs would be hard to come by in most parts of the world.

http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/citi...ghborhood/1360 This is either the realization of a fantasy you’ve had while exploring IKEA or its your worst nightmare: IKEA has designed an entire neighborhood.
